Can any one tell me where I can get or order a new breech plug for a CVA Model Bobcat 50 cal. I called CVA and they said I would have to send them the whole barrel and they would replace it for $28.95. Thanks for any and all help.

This is the fifty dollar sidelock from Walmart ain't it? What exactly happened to your breech plug that you need a new one? If you did happen to find a new one you would probably need a machinist to fit it to your barrel.

The breechplug is literally pinned into the barrel and most people damage the plug before they can get it out.
$28.95 sounds like a good deal. :)

The flats on the plug and barrel must line up so that the tang , sights. and ramrod pipes(if any) are in the proper relationship to one another.
It's really not a tough job for a machinist who is familiar with screw therads.

This is how the breechplug is designed and shows the reason why one should not to try to disassemble it.

I went through this a while ago and found a company that would sell a replacement bolster. Dixie, maybe? My original from CVA was improperly bored and the rifle would only fire occasionally. I didn't want to send it back as I'd hand-browned the barrel and they were going to replace it with a crappy blued one.

The bolster, at least on my rifle, simply turned out. No pins anywhere. If you're talking about the barrel plug at the back of the barrel (some were made that screwed out) that's another story.

The breech plug is pinned in by the drum (bolster). The threading for the drum into the breechplug may not be "clean" enough (or undamaged) to allow for the breechplug to be unscrewed without damaging it. This is because the drum is drilled and threaded in after the breechplug is installed. It's not easy to reverse the breechplug and that's probably why CVA offers such inexpensive replacement barrels.
Some folks try to remove the breechplug without first removing the drum.
One person said that he destroyed the tang while trying to unscrew the breechplug, even after the drum was removed.

Ya'll may or may not have noticed where I was telling Bigbadgun about my Grand nephew who got a CVA Kodiak .50 for this last Christmas. I think they'vd already torn it up. They (he and his daddy, my nephew) didn't have the damn rifle for much more than a week before one of them loaded a dry ball.(I don't know which one because the Grand nephew is not allowed to load or fire the rifle without his daddy being there with him) (They hunt a lot but with modern firearms) If I'd told them once I'd told them 3 dozen times--"Remember! The powder goes before the ball or else it will not shoot a'tall!"
They tried the ball puller and couldn't make it work. Said "That ball puller wasn't worth a s***!"
His daddy evidently came up with the bright idea of unscrewing the breech plug so he could push the ball on through.
I wasn't there when all of this happened but my sister who is their Mother and Grandmother was there and she told me all about it. (she's the one who'd paid for the rifle and accessories and all)
First, he tried to unscrew the plug with the wrench that came with the rifle. No luck. Then he put it in a vise and put some sort of wrench on it with a long handle and practically swung on it. (and he's large-over 200 pounds)
My sister said that when the breech plug broke loose (or some part up in there just plain broke) it sounded like a .38 going off.
My sister asked me reckon what she ought to do about the rifle and I told her she needed to throw it into the deepest part of the Tennessee River (and maybe them along with it) and just forget about it.
She took the rifle and put it away in her home so they can't get to it...Okay...
