cylinder pin question on pietta 1858

OK, I know this was incredibly stupid of me, after taking my 1858 to pieces (completely) to give it a deep clean, I cannot seem to remember how the cylinder pin goes in. I know I’ve seen it so many times, and I should have noted all these things before pulling it to bits but I just cannot remember.

Does the flat piece on the pin face down (which I think it does) or face up?

faces 'down' and give it heavy pack of stiff lube.

If you point the flat part up, the retaining screw will not go in. If the screw does go in, you could have a problem.

all screws go in fine, thanks for the warning though. I just wanted to make sure, and what better place to ask than here THR has been a goldmine of knowledge for me since starting my association with black powder.

Make sure you use natural lubes and NO petroleum based lubes. I use Olive Oil(virgin or whatever, but NOT mixed with anything!) on the internals and the cylinder pin and Bore Butter over the balls in the chambers as lube. I can get 5 stages out of my BP guns before they start to bind up. Colts or Remy's!
