Is there a way to remove the cylinder pin on a Pietta 1858 Remington with 5 1/2" barrel?
I've jiggled and wobbled the pin but she won't come all the way out.

on mine the cylinder pin is a long rod in the front. Its flat on the bottom till you pull it all the way out and it stops. It stops on this notch, with a small screw which hits the notch.

If i remove that little screw under the rod the rod pulls right out.

To me its more of a rod then a pin. Unless your thinking of something else?

It hits the loading lever catch on the bottom of the barrel, when you pull it all the way forward.
He's talking about the cylinder axis pin that goes through the cylinder, about which the cylinder rotates.
Unless I'm mistaken.
Mine won't come out all the way, either.
On the 8" version, you can completely remove it because the loading lever catch is further forward.

Kind of like a Ruger Blackhawk 4-5/8". Axis pin won't go far enough to come out, without removing the ejector rod assy.
5.5", not a problem, as it comes out without removing the ejector rod assy.

Hope this helps.

Even on a 8 inch Remington the cylinder pin wont come out unless you remove the screw, at least not on any i have ever owned. It comes out far enough to remove the cylinder though. Not sure about that on the 5 1/2 inch model.

With the "rammer" removed, the cylinder pin will slide forward UNTIL it hits the rammer-latch, this is on a 5 1/2" barrel.

Does the rammer-latch unscrew for pin removal?
I'd like to put just a bit more "tapper" on the end of the cylinder pin to facilitate swapping cylinders, and I think having the pin out would make it easier to work with.
