I have a 586 no dash and recently the cylinder release started sticking, locking up the revolver. I replaced the ejector rod and when that did not fix the problem, I took it to my loacal smith. He said it was fixed and that it was a burr on the latch. Well it is not fixed and after a lot of playing around with it I found it only does it when closed on the same two chambers. It is fine if you close it on any of the other four but there are two that do not let the release slide back. Anyone have this problem?

The yoke may be tweaked and your local smith may not have the correct tools to check/correct that. S&W had a recall on the early L frames to correct some issues. Yours may not have made it back to Springfield for that either.

I had same problem with a Model 10-6.

Good; S&W fixed the gun for $122.00

Good; They test fired all six chambers

Good; Factory restored action to new in the box condition

Bad; Did I mention that the factory restored action to new in the box condition?

Good; Gun locks up tight and functions perfectly

Bad; Did I mention that the factory restored action to new in the box condition?

Toss-up; I get to start all over with breaking in the action.

A smith that knows what he's doing can smooth the action without creating issues with the parts and S&W has a custom shop that can do that work.
Even if you do not feel competent to do so or have no interest in working on your gun, getting a copy of the Kuhnhausen manual would certainly educate you on what to look for, help you determine what needs to be done, and who to let do it.
