How thick is a Taurus 608 8-shot cylinder? What is the average thickness of the cylinders of 6-shot .357 magnum revolvers?
Do anyone carry a Taurus 608 for SD, seeing it has 2 more shots than any other .357 revolver?

I've got a 608, and I've measured the cylinder thickness too, and I measured the K frame .357 for comparison, I just don't remember what those numbers were. But I'll get back to you on that tomorrow, but I think the K frame was a tad bit thicker cylinder wall, maybe not though.

What I can tell you is the 608 is a beast to carry for self defense, I know I have done it a few times. The cylinder is extremely larger, and then add two more cartridges to it , a compensated barrel, and you have one very heavy wheel gun. The up side is, they shoot like a dream, even with the most stout full house magnum reloads.

My Son dropped a mule deer in his tracks with one shot from about 100 yds. with that 608. Hit him in the head and blew out the opposite side of his head. He was either shooting my 158 gr. Gold Dots or a 125 gr. XTP with a full H110 charge, I'll have to ask him tomorrow. No kidding, that mule deer just fell over and the legs / hooves went straight up, looked like a comic strip fall over dead caption.

Well, looks like my son has snagged it at the moment. But the barrel is like 4-1/2" counting the compensated end. My K frame cylinder is right at .098" on the front of the cylinder. From the back it is .078".

GS are you measuring from the inside of the cylinder
to the outside of thd cylinder, forward and aft?
& please incluse the diameter of the cylinder.

makes me wonder about the thickness of
the S&W .357s

Model 27 N-Frame 6 shot
Mocel 625 N-frame 8shot cyl.

Models 581/586
681/686 6 shot
686P 7 Shot

Models 13 & 19 K frame 6 shot cyl.

& the one I have

Model 60-15 3" bbl. 5 Shot
the Magnum J frame 60/640 are
enlarged ahead of the cylinder a bit longer & beffier
frame and forcing cone. but I'd imagine the
Cylinder is still the same diameter.

Oh, also there was a change on the L frame to move the
notch in the cylinder where it is engaged by the
'hand' & that'sthe thinnest point on a K frame
because it lines up with the cylinder. They fixed that in the L frame guns.

Alright then, I'll provide all dimensional measurements then. Just to clarify, you would like the cylinder thickness front, and back. And also the cylinder diameter and length?

I was over at his house last night helping with a timing chain job, but I forgot to grab the 608 from him. I'll run over there this afternoon and pick it up, sorry about that, I've been pretty busy.

My daughter in law decided to take off to Yuma with the 608, which explains why my Son took it the other day, so that is going to be on hold for at least 24 hrs..

But I just measured my S&W 66-5, and the diameter of the cylinder is 1.455". The wall thickness at the forcing cone end, or the front of the cylinder is .098" and exactly .357" inside diameter.

I asked my Son if he remembered how thick the 608 cylinder walls were, he said all he remembered was they were a little bit thicker than my 66-5, if that helps at all.
