If the gun shoots properly I wouldn't worry about it. At this point, your concern is theoretical rather than practical. If you haven't fired it yet, try it.

When mine broke, it sort of jammed up the works, and kept the action from working properly... there was something obviously wrong. (This all happened years ago, and it only happened once, so I don't remember the details...)

After having done some research, I believe I have a culprit.

Its an inertial driven firing pin. Duh. Well, maybe.
 
As suggested above, the "pencil test" is an easy way to see if things are working right.

Put a pencil in the barrel of an unloaded gun -- eraser end first. Then point it toward the ceiling and pull the trigger. If things are working properly, you'll see the pencil move -- as the firing pin strikes the erase-end of the pencil.
