One of these will be under the tree this Christmas. What ammunition would those of you who have more experience than I do recommend? The rifle will primarily be used for serious (though not competition) target shooting at 50 and 100 yards. Thanks in advance.

Wolf Match Target

Good choice of rifle. :)

Here's my list: (not too expensive)
- Wolf Match Target
- Eley Practice
- Remington Gold Bullet (range not more than 50 yds, too much drop variation after that.

The best:
- Eley EPS

I agree with the above except I suggest substituting the Remington for Federal 510 Lightning. The Federal 510 is very consistant for bulk HV ammo.

Another option for cheap target ammo is the subsonic from most major manufacturers. I find Aguilla Subsonics very accurate in my BRNO Model 1. High Velocity 22s encounter turbulance when they break the sound barrier out of the muzzle then decelerate to subsonic again before hitting the target at 50 or so yards.

I've had very good results with Federal American Eagle. Although I've had good luck with every kind of ammo I've put through it.

My CZ452 likes CCI Green Tag. A good medium grade target ammo.
I usually pick up 500 rnds for around $35 to $37.

Eley is also very good...has several grades..but costs more. Probably overkill for your intended use.

I see several brands have 'plated' .22 ammo, which I assume is a sort of a copper or brass FMJ type of covering. Is there any advantage to using this (cleaning, for example)?

tl,
Lead .22 bullets are coated with a waxy substance anyway. This is what you have to clean out of the barrel.
I'd add Aguila match ammo as well to the lists given above.
If it's your 1st rifle, buy some cheap stuff (bulk boxes at wallymart) for your major practice. It won't group as well as the good stuff, but the cost will encourage you to practice a lot. Do so! :)

I have had great luck with Wolf Match Target, Federal American Eagle lrn, and believe it or not, CCI Blazers (though not quite as good as the others). Winchester T22 also worked pretty good but not even close to the Wolf.

Good luck and enjoy.
