I recently received two CZ-52s from AIM. One of them came virtually oil free. Considering the lack of oil, I was concerned it might not have been stored properly and the innards could have rusted away. I began to disassemble it so I could inspect the parts (and judge if it was safe to fire).
Well, I've popped it open and there are gobs of grease. The attached photo shows some of what is left over after I removed the big chunks. It's mixed with quite a bit of oil as well that I used to lubricate the pins to ease removal.
I've cleaned up a number of cosmo covered milsurp rifles, however this is my first pistol. Considering I know very little about this particular pistol, I wanted to make sure this grease wasn't "normal" or something. I mean, if I ran across a modern pistol that looked like this, of course I'd remove all of the grease and lube the few friction points with rem oil. This grease is from storage, yes? It's not required for the pistol to function and should be removed to prevent it from retaining potentially damaging dust/dirt, yes?
After field stripping the other CZ-52 (not the complete take down I'm doing to this one) I put a few rounds through it. It's quite fun to shoot. The roller pin chamber locking mechanism is certainly new to me and I'm still trying to figure out how it works. Overall, quite a nifty pistol. The price is certainly right too!
