I have seen a lot of people posting about how much they like the 7.62x25 and the CZ-52. Military gun surplus sells them for $170 and I was wondering if that was a good deal. Would you guys buy one for that price (and $30 for FFL transfer)? Also, where could I get ammo and mags for it?

Edit: Scratch the ammo part, Midway sells it.

I would buy one as long as you want a fun gun. I got mine some years ago for $230 after all was transferred and shipped, of course it came with 1,000 rounds of S&B. Screaming deal. Shotgun News has ads for mags. Gun is not ideal for carry due to ammo selection and safety. If you get one never, ever trust the decocker. Can become a second trigger. Don't dryfire it either without an upgraded firing pin, it will break. I had fun with mine, sold it half the ammo later and made money. Fun gun, quirky ergonomics. Get a Mak while you're at it, after I taught myself to do trigger jobs on them I should have never sold mine.

No, Mak is short for Makarov, a gun of Russian design that was built in a number of communist countries. Czecholslovakia wasn't one of them... they sorta did their own thing, hence the CZ-82.

The cheapest ones out there, last I checked, were Bulgarian Makarovs. They should be under $200 I think.

I've had my CZ-52 for @ 8 Mos. now. It's my new favorite all-around gun. That probably is a fair price for a -52. Seems that people are liking them, and buying them, so supplies appear to be running out.

Don't forget to include a TT-33 "Tokarev" in your 7.62x25 handguns ;)

Sportsman's Guide sells spam cans of 7.62 ammo for around $100 per 1000 rounds

This is the first thread where the CZ 52 comments were all positive. It's about time. My friend has a Kimber .45 and I'd rather have the CZ. Well, I'd sell the Kimber and get 4-5 CZ 52s. For lots o' damage, try the Wolf hollowpoints. And, Navy Joe is right; get a Makarov, too. 9X18 for an intruder and 7.62X25 if you have to take out a road grader.

PS: I'll sell the grips for $50 delivered! I like the feel of the originals. No one else does, but I do.

Ditto on the aftermarket firing pin and never trusting the decocker. I tested my CZ's decocker at the range, out of curiosity. Though I was entirely ready for it, it still sent a rush of adrenaline through me as that decocker fired a round downrange.

Though I know I'll catch a lot of flak, I recommend that you not use corrosive ammo in your CZ-52. It's not just a matter of pulling out the barrel and pouring hot water through it. The primer evil spreads throughout the entire frame, and the CZ-52 is a pain to fully disassemble. After seeing what happened after just a few hundred rounds, I would feel guilty firing corrosive ammo and not taking the whole thing down by all its parts. Everything gets rusty.

No matter how inexpensive they (and the corrosive ammo) are, they're a classic design and piece of history that we should respect.

If you want inexpensive, go Kel-Tec.

Man! I LOVE any CZ-52 or TT-33 thread that comes along.

However, that price to me sounds a bit high. Southern Ohio Gun has them for 124.00
Extra surplus mags can be gotten from J&G Sales, while new production mags (they work ok) can be gotten from Sportsmanguide.com

Ok, some things to remember with this pistol: don't dry fire without snap cap. Replace the firing pin, get some hardened steel rollers from www.makarov.com, don't trust the decocker, and last but not least, don't use this as a concealed carry handgun.

You will like the pistol. It's fun as beans to shoot, brass gets thrown into the next county, and the muzzle flash is difficult to beat.

If you have a "spare" 209 bucks lying around, pick up the CZ-82. Currently the BEST surplus deal going right now.

I love my '52. The fireball and brass flying 20' always gets a few looks! I paid $170 for mine over a year ago.

The good thing is the ammo is cheap...but can these guns take the abuse? Besides replacing springs, I've heard that pins tend to come undone on the cz52, as well as the firing pin, the decocker, etc.

The CZ 52 is a very fun range toy, however unergonomic it may be. As far as 'fun guns' go, my one and only real complaint about it is the older european-style magazine release its got at the bottom of the pistol-grip :barf: The gun itself though is good value and I still think you'll be able to find it for less than $170, though thats not too bad either.

So if I wait for ~1-2 months I should still be able to find one right? Some people are making it sound like I need to snatch it up NOW!! Also, do you guys prefer the 52 or the 82?

I own a model 82 and I've shot the cz 52 plenty of times but it in the end it all depends what you want from the firearm. The makarov and tokarev rounds both serve much different purposes. The tokarev is necked high velocity round, whereas the makarov is somewhere between a .380 and a 9mm luger. As far as availability goes I doubt either will disappear anytime soon. Now, the price will go up eventually as supply goes down and if demand stays constant, but I couldn't tell you how much that would be. Oh and believe me, when you get the idea that 'I must have rifle/pistol x because it will soon be gone' then it will be an unstoppable insatiable hunger without ends, believe me I've been there, heck I still am

The 50 and the 82 are quite different. For a rang gun the 52 is wonderful. It can stop everyone on the range. It is accurate enough to be fun. The ammo is cheap.
The 82 seems to be a more useful gun. It is easily carried despite the weight.

Sans Authoritas:

I dont mind the corrosive ammo. A bottle of windex down the gun followed by a blast of compressed air seems to get the corrosive salts out. Your are certainly right, it is more than the barrel that suffers from corrosive ammo. With water, windex, air and oil the 52 should last a lifetime.

I guess I'm lucky because on my two 52s, the decocker works as it should, but I have read all the warnings and will not use it with a live round in the chamber, regardless. Otherwise, it is a highly underrated pistol that is nothing but fun to shoot. My CZ82, is my favorite 9X18 by far. And I have a Mak and a P64 to compare it to. I love old Communist block weapons!

Also fwiw, $30 will get you a C&R license from the atf and then you can have all sorts of old guns shipped directly to your house without going through your ffl every time.

I'd get one as a fun gun, not as a defensive weapon.

I'd get one from Southern Ohio Gun, they had them advertised for $120 and stay away from the 50's Bulgarian Ammo, it's pretty crappy.
