re: CZ52
My CZ52 was purchased in excellent condition for $125. I went to
www.makarov.com and accessorized it (probably have at least another $125 in it).
The cartridge is hot, loud, and provides a big flash. It's an attention getter at the range, especially indoors.
The CZ52 is prone to brittle firing pins which break. No dry firing without a good snap cap!
The roller-barrel design is unique, interesting to observe it's behavior when you take it down for cleaning. Take down can be an adventure if you don't have the special takedown tool (takes some getting used to with the tool).
The trigger is 12# and kind of gritty, and I've never mastered the art of shooting it well, although I hear some have, and those who do brag of impressive groups out to 100 yards. I may try some bench shooting with it to see what the gun is capable without the handicap of this gentleman as the shooter. It's a little heavy, but it can be a lot of fun.
As to your specific questions:
I think you may be able to do a little better on price on-line, but having the opportunity to inspect it locally is a plus, especially with this type of item.
Using factory ammo (I use S&B from CTD or Cabelas or Natchez), I've never had any serious problems with jamming...I think 1 or 2 since I bought it. You probably will want to replace the grips, I also went with the stiffer recoil spring as recommended at
www.makarov.com. Mine is stamped as being 1953 vintage and the finish exceeds that of some of my modern guns.
As for ammo', I think on the whole you may do better in terms of availability AND PRICE on-line...I'd recommend you stick with S&B and stay away from surplus stuff.
Bottom line, I view my CZ-52 as a shootable collectable. It's lots of fun, gets some attention, and challenges me like no other handgun does...I hope to shoot a decent group with this piece before I head on to the hereafter
.
Good luck and safe shooting,
