Well after trying a few different scopes on my sweet little CZ 527 carbine, I think I have found one I like. I tried 1.25-4.25 Bushnell Banner but it was heavy and the bolt handle just barely cleared the scope bell. I wanted something small that didn't interfere with the great handling of the rifle. I looked and looked but never could find one that didn't break the bank.

Then I found this little guy. Its a Tasco Bantam. Fixed 2.5 magnification with a "ProShot" reticle (standard crosshairs with a circle around them). It was advertized as a slug gun/muzzle loader scope. I figured that for forty bucks it was worth a try.

I mounted it, got it setup to have good eye relief then sighted it in. Using Wolf 122gr hollow points my best group was right at 2.5 inches at a hundred yards. Not bad for steel cased ammo and a 2.5x scope!

I'm very happy with it. I think its a good match for the 7.62x39 round. Its light weight and small size don't throw off the great handling of the little carbine. I think it will make a great whitetail rifle and woods gun, as well as a fun little plinker.

What do you all think?

Do you just want an opinion that agrees with you or do you want the truth (as I see it)?

I have two CZ's. They are excellent. I've tried cheap scopes on hunting rifles. Fogged up internally and/or lose zero. Missed a chance at a HUGE deer (14 points) because of the fogged scope. IMO, a rifle that nice deserves a better scope than that.

On my CZ 453 .22 I've got a Leupold VX-3 4.5x14x40. Cost as much as the rifle. There are less expensive alternatives that would still hold up well.

Hope it works out for you.

I was a little leery of trying such a cheap scope too. The package says its water/fog/shock proof. I know that doesn't mean much but I guess time will tell. And I agree that nice rifles deserve nice scopes but I just cant fork over the cash for a Leupold when the rifle already has good iron sights on it.

The old wide angle "telivision" objective redfields not only look great on a cz but have the extra clearance where its needed most.

If I end up with another 527 carbine that's what it'll wear

My carbine wears a Redfield 2-7 on it. It is just about the right size for the CZ.

Haha it was gently laid on the rocks, no scratches!

One side of me wants to carry and use this gun (get some character) while the other side of me wants to keep it pristine because CZ makes such great rifles. They really are a well kept secret of the gun world. I wont buy another new production bolt action that isn't a CZ.

I really think that if every deer hunter in the US got to handle one of these sweet little carbines for a few minutes that they would sell their current setup and buy a 527.
