I'm getting my son a 527 carbine in 7.62x39 for Christmas and I'm looking for suggestions on scopes. Wanting to keep it as light as possible without breaking the bank. Searching the archives gave me some good starting points, just wondering if anything new has popped up or experiences gained?
Thanks

My howa mini wears a 2-7x33 Leupold VX-1 and I love it. Perfect match for that rifle, and I'm sure it would be for the CZ as well. I think they call them the "freedom" series now, but it's the same scope. They only weigh 10 oz.

I backed into owning one of these as it came installed on a CZ .22.
It is rapidly becoming one of my three favorite scopes of all time. I too, think it would be a fine fit for the mentioned gun.

There was a thread on this just in October:

I like Leupold. A lower-end Zeiss, Swarovski, or Leica would be small and light enough but the high-end scopes that really define them are probably too big and heavy for the little 527, same thing with the NF or SB. A 1" tube VX3 or VX3i fits the factory rings but some Talley Medium rings would bring it down a little and should still clear the bolt handle without modification. Alternatively, you can go to a larger eyepiece with the factory rings but most scopes like that will be 30mm.

The wide field of view of a low magnification scope is best suited to a 527, especially in 7.62x39. A 1.5-5X20 is nice but the eye relief distance shifts a lot between low and high power. A 2-7X33 VXR might be a good choice. There is a lot of personal preference involved.

Price point? Not having a dollar reference is like asking “I need a car, what should I get?

I’ve got three CZ’s, two 527’s and a 453 .22. Two have Leupold VX-3’s 4-14x40 including the .22. Excellent, but you may not be ready to invest $325, though I obviously feel it’s worth the price.

IMO, Burris Fullfield is an excellent value. Really nice and cost is less than the VX-3

I initially had a 1.5-4x VX-1 on that rifle, and found I wanted a hair more than 4x for those 200 yd. shots, so I swapped it out for the 2-7x33 and never looked back.

The #1 thing I'd buy for a CZ 527 is QD rings. The iron sights on the CZ are really, really good, and you might find that you like shooting with them just as much as a scope. QD rings are expensive, but 527 rings are already expensive as it is, so the QDs give you that iron sight option back for only $25-$50 more.

Anyway, my 527 is wearing a Redfield Revolution 3-9x40 right now. It's a nice set-it-and-forget-it hunting style scope, but it feels too bulky on that rifle. That VX-1 in 2-7x33 suggested above sounds about perfect; I believe the VX1s and the Revolutions share a lot of components.

And as I wrote in the October thread, I'm also tempted by the FX-II Ultralight fixed 2.5x scope. It weighs only 6.5 oz, which would be really nice on a light rifle. The only problem is that 2.5x isn't much zoom, and you're stuck with it if that ends up not being enough.

I've had fixed 4's on several of my 7.62x39's and they were very satisfying as well. A clean Leupy 4x would be great. If you like lower power, a 1.5-4x is pretty nice too, but I ditched mine due to poor low-light performance.

Weaver V7 or V10. Both lightweight, Japanese glass. V7(2.5-7x32) $130 V10(2-10x38) $160, at Natchez Shooters supply.

I have a Vortex Crossfire 2-7x on a Howa 7.62x39 that I would recommend at the lower end price wise. Definitely serviceable, but no Leupold either. The 2-7x is a good match for that cartridge. I have a Fullfield 2 3-9x on a .223 CZ 527 that is much nicer than the Crossfire, and an amazing value for the price.

If I had to do the scope choice on the Howa over, I would likely go with a 2-7x Burris on the CZ.

I've a Weaver 1-4x mounted on my 7.62x39 in Warne QD rings. It isn't expensive and seems nicely scaled to the carbine dimensions. It started with a Leupold VX Hog 1-4x, but that got moved to another rifle later. I put iron sights on my fullstock .223. My .300 Blackout, now in a MDT chassis, wears a Nikon P-300 2-7x.

Leaning towards the leupold fxII 2.5X20, anyone got a part # for qd rings?

That's a doggone nice little scope if 2.5 suits you. I personally love fixed-power when it works.

That one you're looking at? Small, handy, very reasonably priced and OUTSTANDING customer service.
I've been very..... VERY happy with Leupold's own QDs. I think they're called lever-locks or something to that effect.

One final thought here - I picked up an older steel tube Weaver K3 a while back for my muzzleloader. I had no idea how good a scope that was going to be for the $40 or so that I paid for it. I love that thing. It would go great on a 7.62x39 as well.

Man that full stock is sweet looking.

Thanks, I just wish it hadn't come from the factory with that vented recoil pad. I swapped out the original triggerguard to be able to use their newer, nearly-flush 3-shot mags -- those three 5-shooters are just my spares now.

I wish CZ made a butterknife bolt handle, to round out the whole Mannlicher–Schönauer carbine look.

Alright, went with the leupold 2.5x20 with Warne qd mounts. We'll get some pictures up about the 26th. Hopefully a couple broken in pics after secondary youth season.

Let me know how it goes; you might convince me to take the plunge on an FXII myself.
