Cut one out then glue it on your die's lock ring so it looks like this:
Mark a line on the die threads to use as a reference.
Each mark on the one pictured is a .002" change in die height. Each thread on the die is 1/14th inch which is about .072 inch. There's 36 marks on that label so each one's worth .002" (.05 mm).
I suggest setting the die in the press so it just barely touches the shell holder when the ram is raised all the way to the top. Then set the lock ring in place on the die. Next, full length size a fired case. Try to chamber it in your rifle. If the bolt doesn't close easy without binding, then unlock the die, screw the die further down into the lock ring an amount that moves its mark one line on that label. Resize that case again and that'll set its shoulder back about .002". Chamber it again. Repeat this until the sized case chambers easily then that die's set in your press to full length size cases just right for your rifle.
A lot of people have used the arsenal M72 match ammo made for Garands as the standard for .30-06 accuracy. Doesn't matter that it shot 1.5 to 2 MOA at 300 yards at best from test barrels. Some of the 600 yard test groups were near 3 MOA and still met accuracy specs of 3.5 inch (.583 MOA) mean radius. That's easily cut in half with handloads using new cases and 48 grains of IMR4064 under a Sierra 168 or 175 grain match bullet with a good primer in the case.
Now to report on the hunting trip and to brag a little with a grouping. however once again I could not replicate it later in the but i was happy with the results anyways. The first pick is of the 3 shot group at 100m the second is of the Eland I took down this week-end. The Farm owner did not want any trophy animals shot so I had to settle for a smallish cow. And the last is of a Oryx I took a few weeks ago. Apologies for the blood, in all the exitement we did not notice the blood around us and the animals.
You earned the right to brag. I do not miss much when I hunt, but I never shot a group like that out of my .30-06. I do not expect to ever do it either!
