While I am paying off my 550 FS in .308, I would like to hear about your 550. Post what you have along with any good hunting story or good day at the range. How long have you had your 550? Do you have any pictures to post? Are you satisfied with the stock rifle, or have you spent time and money to get exactly what you want or just got rid of it all together? This is my first center fire rifle, and I am looking for ward to getting mine paid off and hitting the range.
My only gripes about the 550 FS, the detachable magazine( mags are pricey) and the long action for the .308 round----mind you these are not things I would lose any sleep over. I understand the pros for a detachable magazine.
Thanks

The inletting on my stock required a bit of attention.
My rifle is a 6.5x55 American with the freefloated barrel, which in my case was not on one side.
The bolt knob was also contacting the stock on one side.
I'm about to do a glass bedding and perhaps pillar bedding job on the rifle just to see what it will do.
My best 5 shot group to date is .635" with 120g Nosler ballistic tips.
If you plan to scope the rifle I hope you have a long neck.
The rings on my American are high and it has a monte carlo style stock.

I've also got a 550 American in 6.5x55. I haven't done too much shooting for groups with it as I have a 15 month old daughter. But, I've finally gotten handloading equipment, and I'll be working up a 140gr Barnes XLC load for it. I took it deer hunting last year and it worked just fine. The deer didn't cooperate, but that's hardly the gun's fault. I'll be using it for elk hunting this year (hence the XLC's), so with any luck I'll be able to post about that come late October. I haven't had any problems with fit and finish like MLC.

I just purchased a CZ550 American in 9.3X62. I think I like it, I thnk I like it a lot. Havn't done any hunting with it yet but, fall is coming. So far it is stock. I am in the process of bedding it and free floating the barrel. It shoots great out of the box, I just feel like bedding it. Here is a target of my first trip to the range.

Last year I bought this one in 30-06 off GunBroker for $495 which seemed like a good price for a new one. I looks very nice and I don't see any fit or finish issues. Only shot it once so far to zero the scope but seems to be fine.

Damn, Steve, that some shooting, there.

My 550

Holy crap, those are nice groups, Steve! I want a 550 in that same caliber myself. Now I'm even more convinced!

I recently purchased a 550 FS in 243 Winchester. It is the smallest center-fire chambering I have. I am in the process of tooling up to do hand loads for it and it has only seen one box of factory ammo.

The barrel was the dirtiest I've ever seen on a new gun. It took a little doing to get it clean, not a complaint, just a statement.

The biggest disappointments with the gun have been the sights and the stock. The full stock (FS) version is advertised with upgraded wood. It's pretty plain Jane and the finish is not too good either, too porus. I'm sure I'll take it apart this winter and give it a proper finish. I'm also going to pay close attention to the accuracy and determine if the barrel should be full length bedded. Anyone done this before?

The factory sights really suck. The front bead is too small to be of any practical values the the rear V is overly obtrusive. I have been looking for Firesight replacements but it appears a gunsmith might be needed to modify "suitable" substitute parts. I bit the bullet and ordered a Burris scope. I didn't want one that was heavy or obtrusive and ended up with a 1.75 - 5 X 24mm FFII. Be careful if looking at short scopes like the Short Mag. The action on the 550 is difficult to span with compact scopes. The mounts are medium height. Not really much choice there.

The scope and mounts are arriving next week as are a lot of the reloading equipment and components. I'll provide comment to the results.
