how does the cz 550 american stack up against the 700 or ruger m77? i am looking for a deer rifle in 243win. I heard the wood is really nice and i know they are i little pricier, but they seem to have an "edge" more upscale, it seems to me tia tia -rookie

I have a CZ550FS in .30-06, it has the full-length forestock and European-styled buttstock. I shoot it with iron sights, and the stock design is ideal for that. I have heard that some people who have bought these rifles are not pleased with the quality of the finish on the wood, but mine is very very nicely done. The fit and finish of the rifle are top notch and I couldn't be happier with it.

sure. chew on these;









this is the 527 carbine, 223. these are 100 yds groups. As you can see,
the groups start opening up at 62 grains, this is because of the slow twist bbls.
the 223 in kevlar varmint has a 1/9 twist , i believe, but this type of accuracy , is something to expect from them, in all of CZ" s rifles, throughout their cals.

CZ rifles are great. Friend of mine has a 550 american in .243 it's a good shooter out of the box. I prefer the 527 which is much smaller both of them will blow away any other rifle in their price range.

I like my 550 in 22-250

and a group. There was actually a scope adjustment here.

Get the CZ, you'll like it. Mine is in 6.5x55 and I would definitly look at that caliber over the .243. But I'm prejudiced.

I am looking into buying a 30-06 and its looking between a CZ 550 and rem 700, (maybe a Tikka). But between the CZ and rem I see that the rem has a 1:10 rat of twist and the CZ has a 1:12, which would be better in this caliber I mostly looking for a somewhat light wieght gun and I like the 30-06 for the versitility of bullets for it. Mostly I want it for average range shots on deer and for bear, so I am not looking to shoot light varmit bullets from it.

I have a 550 American in 6.5x55 and am seriously lusting after a 550 (either Lux, if I can find one, or American) in 9.3x62 - serious elk medicine. My current one shoots better than I do (admittedly not saying that much). If they ever bring them out in lefty config I'll be getting one right away for SWMBO.

Buy a CZ 550 with great confidance that you're getting a much, much better rifle than you'd ever expect for the price. Only other Mauser action I'd seriously consider would be a pre-64 or Classic Featherweight M70, but considering the cost of either of those I'd still take a CZ first if I was paying retail for either.

I couldn't be happier with my varmint in .308 and I'll be getting a Burris Fullfield II 4-14x42 for it soon. I'm moving the cheaper Simmons Aetec over to the 700BDL 30-06 which I've never been able to get the CZ-like groups with.

a 1/10 twist is fine for the remmy, if you shoot bullets regularly over 205 , or maybe 220 grains. the cz 1/12 twist, will get you up to the 205 grainers with confidence.
