Gentlemen,
Going to be making a purchase soon and have narrowed it down to a "like new" sig 225 or a "like new" cz 75 pcr.

No other makes, models, or calibers are under consideration. No after-market accessories are required other than leather.

Am interested in hearing from anyone that has experience with both models and their opinions of them as far as accuracy, shootability, reliability and such. And which one would they perfer other than an obvious higher mag capacity of the CZ----in other words a head to head shoot-out comparison.

This will be a ccw.

Last consideration is I am left-handed. I have handled both weapons. The decock features do not seem to be a problem. But is the mag release on both the sig and the cz reverseable for lefties?

I have a 225 and a 75 compact. Love them both. I give the edge to the P225 - just my opinion - but you can't go wrong with either.

Ive owned both and you're about as close as you can come while being so different. I like the controls on the PCR better...Sigs decocker is backwards to where it should be.......I have CZ hands! :D

My money would go with the CZ...its ergonomics! They are both flawless but the PCR is a better pointer for me and is just more comfy to hold and shoot!

Shoot well.

This is a tough one for me. The 225 is the coolest pistol I've had and then  sold. I have the PO1 which is the PCR with a rail, and it's superior to the Sig in many way's including accuracy and human engineering, at least to my mind it is. I'd take the Sig though, the 225 is getting very hard to come by these day's, a very hard find in some areas. I always felt it was the best feeling of any of the Sig Sauer's, it's certainly one of the best looking. Snap that bird up, thats what I'd do. You can always buy a CZ...;)

I realize the 225 is a discontinued model but I want this 9mm more for carrying and a lot of range time than collecting.

The two guns are at different shops which makes it more difficult since they are not side by side to compare.

I know the sig has the "bigger name", police contracts, and probably more choices in leather. On the other hand, most cz owners that I read about are like that old cigarette commercial---they would rather fight than switch.

The sig 225 feels good in the hand and as a single column magazine, should make for a bit easier ccw. The CZ also has a great feel and yet it appears less "blockey" for carry. I really can't get an idea of grip thickness comparison since they are not together.

Look, the CZ is a high capacity compact, the Sig is an 8-shooter. As a matter of practicallity, these pistol's are very similar in size and ergonomics, with the PCR getting the nod (IMO) for superiority of accuracy and handling. But realisticlly, as you've explained, it's for carry, which one feels best in your hands, and which one will you carry comfortably day after day? If I was gonna depend on one over the other for defense, it'd be the CZ.....

Unless its small enough to fit in a pocket a single stack 9mm is for comfort of grip only. The PCR is not a huge grip and with the new CZ factory Cocobolo grips, the grip feel is even smaller. Frankly 14 vs 8 is not insignifigant in weight and firepower but...

I had to make this exact decision seven or eight years ago when Sig discontinued the Sig P225 for U.S. sales. They were discounting new ones and I had a choice between the P225 and PCR for the same price. It was a tough decision but I went with the PCR and have never regretted it. It remains one of my favorite pistols for range and carry. It also has a higher capacity (14+1) caparable to the double stack P228, which I also own. I even prefer the PCR to the P228 and that's considered one of Sig's best also.

I don't own any sigs and my CZ is a 97B, which somehow got a reputation for having huge frips, but even though i have little hands it feels great to hold and shoot. in your position i wouldunhesitatingly go with the CZ.

I own two SIGs, (P220 and P226) both are ultra reliable with wonderful ergonomics. I do not own a CZ, but everytime I hold one (or any clones baby eagle or witness) in my hand...its just like putting on a glove! Seriously, buy what you want and enjoy it!

Also, dont let the "it ONLY hold 8 rounds" get to you...I carry a revolvers 90% of the time and they ONLY hold 5 or 6:) Unless you are a LEO 8 should get it done 99.9% of the time. Thats just my humble opinion.

The PCR is a great pistol, as is the P225. I have had three PCRs, and sold all of them. I still have three P6/P225s.

The thing that would put the PCR over the top for me is if it was available with a traditional safety. Being a DA/SA only (no Condition 1 carry), I give the nod to the P225 for first-shot ergonomics - FOR MY HANDS. Interestingly, my wife grips the P225 better as well. The CZ tries to minimize the bulk of its grip, but the P225 is narrower - no doubt about it.

The P6s are currently available from AIM for $250 and CDNN for $300. Factory magazines for the CZ are about the same cost as factory P225 magazines, but quality Mecgar mags for the CZ are $20 and no such option exists for the P225.

The Sig mag release is easily reversible. The CZs is not, but you can send it to Mike Eagleshield at CZ and he'll modify your pistol for lefty mag release for around half a c-note (plus shipping).

I tend to carry my pistols using CompTac holsters; they have options for both the P225 and the PCR (which I believe they support with the same holster as the Compact 75B).

Next question folks.

Any thoughts on buying a discontinued model? or will there be no problem getting parts/repairs for the next 20 years should the need arise? Would most of the 225 parts be innerchangable with other sigs (239?) such as extractor, firing pin?

I've read of all the strong points about these guns but most people don't talk about the weak points. What is prone to failure or breakage over time on this model SIG or this model CZ?

Also any comments about SIG and CZ customer service as far as sending one in for any repairs? Turn around time been good?

I'm searching for the CZ75 Compact...same as the PCR, but with the traditional safety and cocked-n-locked option as well as DA/SA. I like the option availability.

I don't have the PCR, but I do have a P-O1 and the Sig P225/P6. Personally, I would get the P225 now as they will dry up soon. It's a large pistol for a single stack CCW, but it fits my hand great, I like Sigs and it's pretty light for the size...plus it's more accurate than I am. You can always find a PCR or Compact CZ down the road to add to your collection. I do want to get the Compact 75 as it's more svelt than my P228 and would probably be a great steel carry piece. Good luck and let us know which one you decided on,

I have the P225 and I have shot a CZ75, both are really nice. I prefer the Sig, BUT if you intend carry and all the carry issues you may have as well as maintence and long term parts, i'd probably go with the CZ. While IMHO not as accurate as the P225 (3" group at 25 yards, standing). I guess it just depends upon you.
anyways good luck

I don't think either pistol has any significant weak points. They are both proven military and police sidearms. The Sig P225 has less magazine capacity than the CZ PCR, but I don't consider that a weak point, just a design difference.

I've never had to use either in over 10 years of CZ and Sig ownership. I've heard good things about CZ, but not much on Sig USA supporting the P225/P6.
