Can anyone tell what differences there are between the CZ P01 and the CZ 75 D PCR Compact? After a bit of research I've found that the PO1 has a rail, while the PCR doesn't, the PO1 has a bigger slide stop/release, and the PO1 has a milled aluminum frame versus a cast aluminum frame on the PCR. Other than those that I listed, are there any other differences between these two pistols? Also, I'd appreciate any info/opinions/experiences anyone has concerning either of these pistols. Thanks.

On paper they look like the same gun with the exception of the dustcover with a light rail and different rear sight. A buddy of mine has a 75 Compact and it is one of the sweetest handling handguns I've ever held. I imagine the P01 is just as good.

Send Angus Hobdell an e-mail at Ghost Products. He was involved in the design of the P01 and SP01 models and can probably tell you how the P01 differs from the PCR.

The PCR does not have a light rail which is unecessary IMHO. It also has wilson style sights thta I like better than the P-01. I've had a PCR for seven years and it has been flawless. Its my favorite carry gun.

That about sums up the differences. IMO the PCR is slightly better for concealed carry because of the slimmer muzzle. I've had my PCR for around 5 years and 3500 rounds now and like it very much.

I have some slight experiance...

My PO1, with the forged alloy frame, and rail, is the newest Czech police sidearm, and making some slow inroads in the US police market as well. Fantastic pistol, one I bet my life on every day.

My PCR, with the cast alloy frame, low mount sights, and slimline muzzle, is my preferred alternate carry pistol. I was positive I would not find another carry pistol I liked as much as my PO1, but when I got my PCR, I realized it was a tie.

I can and will carry each alternatively, as with a good holster, even IWB I can't tell the differance with the PO1 rail. I also don't use it for anything, having the Crimson Trace lasergrips installed.

Of course, I AM a little biased...

CZ comparison

As far as opinions about the models, I currently own 2 75 compacts, and am picking up my 2nd P-01 this afternoon at Academy Sports. I have also owned a previous P-01 but my brother in law wanted that one, and had a 75 fullsize that a neighbor wanted. Since I really loved the P-01, I had to have another new one and voila, this afternoon.

I carry the compact in a camera pack holster, and that holster is wonderful. It is the DeSantis model, and I highly recommend it. For an all steel gun, it is suspended really well. My compact is flawless, ultra scary accurate, and beautiful.

But my P-01 is my dream gun, even if I don't need the rail. It looks very futuristic, is relatively lighter, wonderful ergonomics, and just looks bad____ IMHO. That Lasermax would probably look really small on it also, but that is not important. The gun can make you shoot with the best at the range. People not familiar with CZs and their high quality are stunned with this brand that they have not held nor shot.

So by now you can tell I have the CZ disease and it is worrying me for my future. I think the cure will be an 83 for my wife, and then I get another CZ but she will think it is hers. Am I brilliant or what??????

Just my .02,
Gene:cool:

Thanks for the helpful replies/info, and armoredman I really appreciate and liked your pics. Right now I'm leaning towards the PO1. Again, thanks all.

I love my PCR. I have a sig p226 in 9mm as well. The PCR shoots better.

armoredman. Do you use Speer Gold Dots? The one pic you have of you and your gun in the mirror make me think so....nice guns by the way.

The PCR has been discontinued, so if you want one...try to find one.

Both are very similar pistols and I went with the P-01 because that is what the shop had in stock. I actually got rid of my P-01, but bought a compact. I like the compact better because I prefer a safety over decockers. Both are great pistols and you cannot go wrong with either choice. The P-01 is nice because you can mount a light if you wish.

I took a peek at CZ-USA's website, which has been very recently updated. I guess I started something...PO1s are now available with Crimson Trace Lasergrips.
But, I digress - the PCR is still listed. I'd be surprised to see them discontinue that excellent sidearm.
