I just purchased a CZ-75 SP-01 that comes with 2 OEM 19 round magazines. These magazines seem to protrude from the base of the grip as shown below:

A standard CZ-75 B/BD/etc comes with OEM 16 round magazines. These magazines do not protrude below the base of the grip as shown below on the CZ-75 B (standard). I imagine they would sit flush with the grip on an SP-01 as well (right?):

If I were to use 16 round magazines in my CZ-75 SP-01, would the mag sit flush with the end of the grip? This seems more desirable than a mag hanging out the bottom...

Why doesn't CZ just sell the SP-01 with mags that actually sit flush with the SP-01? Then people will have a properly-fitting magazine and if they want larger capacity and don't mind a protruding mag, they can buy after-market 19 round CZ mags... Am I missing something here?

Just like most of my Glock G19 mags are 15 round (as supplied OEM) which sit flush with the grip (for minimal printing when CC) but I also have a few 17 round and 33 round mags which extend beyond the well but are fun for range use/pissing off anti's .

I ask because I am about to stock up on mags for my new pistol and it seems logical to load up mainly on 16 round mags despite the gun coming with 19 round mags. Any thoughts? Is there some reason I should be mainly stocking 19 round mags (as supplied originally) for my SP-01 instead of the 16 round mags which seem much more useful as they actually fit the gun?

Yes. You can use standard CZ 75 mags in an SP-01, they simply fit flush. (Likewise, you can use higher cap SP-01 mags in a standard 9mm CZ-75 with no problems. Or a P-01/Compact 75 for that matter.)

the 16rnd mags are about half the price of the 19rnd mags too..

while useful in some respects...the 19rnd mags do add about 1/2 to the bottom of the gun..

I use the 16rnd mags with the rubber baseplate for competition and play mostly..the bigger mags are pretty much just kept in the safe..

Very good to know, HS! :)

I think I will opt for getting a couple of 19-rounders for my 75B to tide me over until I get an SP-01 of some kind. The gun is already large and heavy enough that the benefit of three extra rounds outweighs the smidgen of extra bulk.

The SP01 is aimed at the competitive shooter. Evidently, CZUB thinks that
those types need the 19 round mags. I even have a 25 round CZ mag.
Doesn't make me a better shooter, but it sure is Fun!

Wow - I can almost buy 2 Mac-Car 16's for the price of 1 19! Thanks for the pic, CZF, can't wait till the order comes in.

Why do you suggest the buttplate? It can be interchanged if I buy non-buttplate mags, right?

I actually prefer the metal plate on my 75. Gives my little finger somewhat of a 'shelf' to rest on.

Now quick, tactical reloads are a different matter. Cut myself pretty bad during a class with my Sig mags that have the plates.

I prefer the Mec-gar/CZ 16 round magazines with the +5% magazine springs and the CZ Rubber magazine base plate (the metal base plate gets hard to take off are a few drops on concrete).

I have a few 19 rounders but I prefer 16 rounds since they run slightly better and I can get rebuild kits.

Just FYI, the rubber base plates for the Beretta mags work perfectly on CZ mags. ;)
