Probably one of the best on the market right now. You will not be disappointed. Don't forget to try the all metal version. Non-phantom SP-01.

Value depends on the market value of the gun in new condition, minus the amount of wear/use the gun has had. Other than collectible type guns, I don't believe certains brands retain their original value more than others. It's not like vehicles, the difference in quality is much closer than say a Dodge Caravan and a Toyota Corolla. --Has anyone ever seen an older Caravan that didn't smoke?--me neither. :)

David, knowing this will be your 1st handgun. May I make my usual recommendation. Try as many out before you buy. Just like shoes, every gun fits people differently.

CZ doesn't to my knowledge.

This is a copy from another post/forum:

After a little looking around I decided to try a Safariland 568. The model is 568-83-411. So far it working great for me and the price was kinda hard to pass up. $37.50 at Midway. Comes with paddle, which is the most comfortable paddle I have ever used, and belt loop attachment.

I understand Blade Tek also makes one, but you had to 'specify' SPO1 Phantom in the "comments box".

Some say the Blade Tek for the steel SPO1 will work if you heat it a little and adjust the retaining screw. The Phantom is 'thicker'.

Holsters are the problem, Bianchi M-100 for Glock 22 should fit fine.
I sawa Dodge Caravan that produced not one iota of smoke! It also didn't run...

I was just getting on here to ask the same question and saw this post. I have always heard great things about the cz's, but never paid too much attention. I was at a good friend of mines house today and he offered me a brand new cz 75 duty 9mm for 425.00. seems like a good price. what can anyone tell me about this gun? I have had glocks own a Sig p226 and a plethora of AR's and six guns. I'm looking for technical info and personal experience. I know "what I like" as far as the fit and all that of the gun....

I recently picked up a Phantom from Bud's while it was on sale ($451). Also my first handgun, not counting a loaner S&W model 41 which I shot a long time ago. Very happy with it. DA trigger pull is long, heavy, stagey and gritty. SA is better, but with a two-stage feel, but both are getting better with use. Grip feels very good. I've been shooting just SA, but dryfire DA and SA with snap caps. Good for the range and also home defense with the right ammo (Federal HST for me). Federal Champion FMJ has been shooting fine so far.

I would consider some of the other CZ75 variants, too, because you can get the Kadet .22 conversion kit for most of them and shoot a lot cheaper with the same feel. It's not designed to fit the Phantom, however it can be made to fit, sort of.

Has anyone ever seen an older Caravan that didn't smoke?--me neither.

I know several that quit smoking when they went on the patch.

As for the CZ, you can't go wrong with it for a first gun,,,, or 5th,,,, or 27th, etc. If it fits your hand and you are comfortable with it then just do it.

I actually had a friend drop off his P-01 this afternoon so I could make him a holster. I took the liberty to dry fire it a bit, and I must day, it is one sweet pistol. Probably next on my list...

A CZ 75 SP-01 Tactical was my first gun, it was great I loved it. I sold it, but once I situate my financial situation, I'm gonna buy another, maybe a Phantom this time instead of Tactical, though.

The rubber grip is out of this world, it feels so great in your hand. It is one of the most accurate pistols I have ever shot in my life, if not THE most accurate pistol I've ever shot, even in DA. They are nice and skinny, so that's nice too. The only downside is that they are quite heavy and large, frame-wise.
