CZ 75 vs. Glock 17 Which is better and why?

I have a CZ-75 and a Glock 19 at present; years ago, I had one of the first batch of Glock 17's to be imported. Frankly, I don't think either Glocks or CZ-75's are the bee's knees. Of the two, I prefer the CZ because the grips actually fit my hand reasonably well. Every Glock points way high for me. Neither one gives what I would call better than adequate accuracy. They both fill the same niche, so I'd advise to get the one that fits you better, whichever it may be.

I have owned both of them.

If I could afford it I would own both right now.

Since one had to go, I kept the Glock.

Since they are both good guns either get some trigger time on both of them to find your personal preference, or just buy both.

Another thought, you could take the money that it would cost for a new Glock 17 and get a 9mm conversion barrel for your 22 AND a CZ 75. Problem solved :D

They're both good guns. I love my CZ-75. I've never had extraction problems, as mentioned before, in the 35,000+ rounds that I have put through mine. My other gun that has seen a similar number of rounds in an H&K USP. I would be hard pressed to decide which gun is better. I trust my life to both of them, but I give the nudge to the CZ.

Well after 22+ CZ's Im not gonna say which you should get........both are very very good guns.
Ive NEVER had an extractor problem of any kind with GODKNOWSHOWMANY1000'S of rounds through them. The CZ's Ive shot are "typically more accurate" than the Glocks Ive shot. Glocks are tough and reliable but not my first choice in this arena........but thats my opinion.

Apples/Oranges.......Blondes/Brunettes............

Shoot well............

One could be a wisea*ss and make the statement "... given a choice between a Glock 17 and a CZ 75(B), I'll take a Sig P(fill in the rest)...., However, I choose not to go there!

Plastic do not biodegrated in 100 years, so do not contaminated the enviroment. Seriously,
Cz #1
Sig #2
Berreta #3
lastly #235 Glock

Sorry
I'm having containing problems lately

I think that's the first time I've seen environmental concerns as a knock against Glocks. :D

You know, this is a serious issue I had not considered. In 100 years our landfills will not be able to handle all the decomposing Glocks. I think our government needs to begin assessing a 'landfill fee' to each Glock sold so that we have the resources to handle this future problem.

Can you use the CZ75 hicaps in the compact/PO1?
Yes.

You can also get flush-fitting hi-caps from CZ for the "compact" CZs: P-01, Compact, and PCR. (These are 13 or 14-rounds, depending on the followers.)

A bunch of us on the CZ Forum have found that the Promags made for the CZ-75 Compact in .40 (a gun that was was to have been introduced several years ago, but wasn't, then) work beautifully, give good service, and hold 14 rounds. The chief advantage of these mags are that they sell for $13-$20, while the factory mags are $35-$40.

(Note: Promags generally have a crappy reputation, but the ones they've made expressly for the 75 Compact in .40 are quite good -- so disregard all the flak you'll probably see following this about Promags being POS's. [Sometimes they are; in this case they aren't.])

With the CZ or Promag "compact' hi-cap and a standard CZ hi-cap you've got about 30 rounds on hand. (The newest CZ standard size CZ mags hold 16 rounds.)

Yeah.. Steadily downhill. WWW.CZFORUM.COM

Approximately 4500 members, most are CZ or CZ clone owners. A good place for info on Tanfoglio guns, too.

Several grip makers, holster makers, and at least one gunsmith who support CZs and Clones are members.

I rented a Model 17 and fired 50 rounds. Afterwards I bought a CZ75DAO without every firing one, because it fit my hand better and, after trying it, found it to have less muzzle flip.

As much as I would like this to be true, my experience has been exactly the opposite. Do you have any first-hand evidence to support your claim?
Yes, I have owned/fired several CZ pistols, including the newest PO1 and 2075 RAMI. I worked for some time at a rental range, and have fired every Glock imported into the US, with the exception of the 18. The only Grock I semi-iked was the 30. I watched them jam just like anyone elses. I will say they seemed built a little sturdier than most, as the heap of busted HK USPs would attest to. The CZs were/are, IMHO, more reliable and accurate. As the old saying goes, "your results may vary."

Apples and oranges.
I 2nd this. My advice is to rent or borrow one of each and after you shoot a box or two of shells, you'll know which one you want.
DISCLAIMER:
I personally own two 9mm Glocks (17,26) so I am biased, but if you like the ergonomics (I do) and can get accustomed to the trigger (I have NYs in both, and like them fine) I don't think you'd be dissappointed.

Glocks have the best aftermarket support of any pistol except maybe 1911's, IMO, and most of the aftermarket stuff seems to be pretty good quality.
I have heard of Glocks exploding, but not 17s. I know a guy who's came-up-on-trade, used, full-size 10mm blew up, but the rangemaster told him it was the ammo he used, I think it was American Eagle FMJs, but I wasn't there when it happened and it might have been some other cheap ammo. On the other hand, my G17 was a rebuild, and if they never break, where did my rebuild come from? I think one reason you don't hear about it much is because when my buddy's blew up, Glock told him they'd warranty it, no questions asked, and like I said he wasn't the original purchaser. The recoil spring guide broke on my 26 (I bought it 2nd hand too) and the guys at my local gunshop just pulled a rebuilt one off the shelf, took out the part, gave it to me, threw my broke one in their box, and said "Glock will make this up." I left happy as hell.

I've noticed the more trouble a firearm gives, the more aftermarket parts there are to correct it :D

But seriously, I was real fond of Birdman's side-mount sights for the Glock. They make for a great tactical firearm, particularly when I need to buss a cap.

Have owned pistolas from both manufacturers. Have sold off or traded away all my Glocks ... still have the CZs.

Not that anyone cares, but I think the CZ-75 is one of the two best-looking pistols ever produced (of course, the 1911 is the other). Glocks ... well ...

And for most folks I've introduced to shooting -- the CZ points better for them. Accuracy and reliability may be a wash (we all have our opinions on that) but -- the CZ also has, in my view, the better safety system.

I own both guns, bought both used. G17 came from a consignment deal at a gunstore, have no idea of the history behind it, whether it was abused, etc. CZ was a range rental, has cosmetic blemishes, etc. Anyways, upon shooting both, they are what I would equally accurate, meaning, both are much more accurate than I am. They are both more than "combat accurate". As for other qualities, I don't know if this is because my CZ in particular was a former rental, but it jammed like crazy at first. In fact, I remember renting this exact gun before it was for sale and it wouldn't go more than a couple of rounds without jamming. They were mostly FTE's if I remember correctly. After a thorough cleaning (by my standards anyways), it functions much more reliably. However, it is still not what I'd consider to be 100% (which my G17 has been, with the exception of the slide not locking back after a magazine is emptied a few times). For this reason, I am personally hesitant to use as a defensive weapon, and it has been relegated to range-gun status. Another reason for its less-than-stellar reliablity may be because I am limpwristing it. This may be because my particular CZ has hogue wrap-around grips which make it a little bulky feeling, and hader for someone with smaller hands like me to get a really firm grip on. Another thing I dislike about the CZ is the sights. The little dab of white paint on the front sight is worn off, and it has rendered the sights all but useless. Now, this may be true of all sights with paint on them, but I don't foresee the plastic Glock sights ever having this problem. Another thing is that the CZ seems pretty big for a 9mm, a similar compaint to the one people frequently use against the Beretta 92FS. Now, the G17 isn't a compact pistol by any means, but it is much less bulky than the CZ, to me anyways. However, the CZ is not without its merits. It is, like I mentioned earlier, VERY accurate. It also has a very smoooth DA trigger, and SA is great as well. It also allows for cocked and locked carry, as well as DAO carry. If I can get the sights fixed, or repainted as the case may be, and the extraction issue worked out, I may shoot it more frequently and like it much more. Until that happens though, the G17 is my go-to gun for 9mm shooting.

The G17 on the other hand, has a less than stellar trigger, and I don't know if it's just my imagination, but it seems like on the last round of a magazine, the trigger gets super heavy. Also, not exactly what I'd call ergonomic, but, with practice, and since you already own a Glock, it will point and handle more naturally. Like I mentioned earlier, it is also very accurate. Lightweight, somewhat more compact than the CZ, and more reliable. To me, they are equally easy to disassemble and clean. Like others have said, they are both good guns and you really can't go wrong with either, but the Glock seems to be more worry-free for me.

kyoung05,

It sounds like you have some worn parts on that range rental CZ. A little TLC, plus a couple new parts here and there, sounds to be in order. Also, buy a small bottle of white Testor's enamel paint (available in most hobby stores). You can repaint those little white dots on both the front and rear sights with ease. Excess paint can be wiped off with a little CLP on a Q-tip.

With your Glock, if it's not locking back when empty, it may be worn magazine springs. Try marking your mags to see if it's usually a particular mag that gives you problems.

Good luck.
