cz-82 disappointment

The stock recoil springs are rated at 14lbs. I find the Wolff 16 lb a VERY nice upgrade. A must for any CZ-82.The days of them being "sub $200 guns" are all but gone. Mine drive tacks with Fiocchi.

If you intend to shoot factory loads, I would not recommend the extra heavy Wolff spring unless you also go with extra heavy magazine springs. I think you would be happier with the 14 or 16 lb spring.

I don't think the factory spring is too weak, I just think yours is bad.

ok I'll go for the 16 then that way it won't hurt my faince's bad wrist. this gun was intended to be something we could qualify for concealed carry with so it's important that she be able to shoot it very comfortably. If this doesn't work out we may go with an sr9 or what I would really like other than a 1911, an xd

I am only an average shot, but my '82 is very accurate. I would also say I have average grip strength, and I would say mine is pretty soft recoiling. I suspect it is a spring issue.

Remember--different pistols recoil differently for different people. I have a Stoeger Cougar that I initially thought was broken, because I couldn't get groups less than 6" at 7 yards. The rangemaster was able to put a 15 round mag in about a 1.5" group at the same distance with the same pistol. It was me, not the pistol. The Stoeger is a smokin' deal, but it just doesn't work for me. It might be the same for you and your '82.

Fair enough and the nice thing is I have two buddies that would probably want it if I don't.

First time I heard of it being inaccurate. It could be just an off day at the range. Everyone has a bad day in any sport. My cz is my most accurate handgun I have.

Ok went out and shot it again. I live in the country so I just shoot in the back 40. Range was 10 yards again. This time with better results. Fiance didn't like the odd recoil, going to to tame it with a grip glove and a 16 lb. wolff spring. The groups would have been around 1.5" this time had I not had some flyers. Fiance also didn't like the fact that it shoots low. So I may tweak the sights if other ammo doesn't group closer to poa. But overall it seems to be a better gun than i thought.

If this is your first blowback pistol, it's going to feel and shoot a tad different then a standard tilting design or revolver. A good grip will help out in tamming the recoil. If your right handed, try shooting with your right thumb on top of the thumb safety, extended forward and your left hand thumb pointed forward as well.

Before you adjust those sights, I would bench it and see if they actually need adjusting or if you just need to get more practice in with a different new to you type of pistol.

I have 4 CZ 82's and they all shot low. I think the Checks used much hotter ammo than our commercial stuff. So I carefully filed down the front sights until I was dead on with each pistol at 15 yards. Worked like a charm.

BTW , all of my 82's are very accurate.

That picture is exactly how I grip the gun. I'm going to try to get it and myself shooting as we should be.

after the group I got earlier, you better believe I'll bench that sucker! My bench was covered with ice for the first time this year.

I'm not exactly sure what I'm reading here. Is the OP using a single six and a buckmark as the standard by which to judge the accuracy of a CZ-82? Was this CZ purchased for competetive shooting?

My guess is that if it's stingin' your hand, then it isn't the optimum gun for accuracy, (though I've heard good things about the accuracy). I'd like to get a CZ-82 because of their good rep., but I've bought too many guns lately.

I, too, own a CZ-82 and find it quite accurate. I have a smaller P64 as well and find it even more accurate. Recoil on both is lousy, as the 9x18 is about as hot as you'd want to get with a blowback without adding more mass to the slide.

I'd try different ammunition before blaming the pistol. BTW, if it were the barrel for whatever reason, they can be replaced with a new barrel by using a barrel press, as far as I'm aware.

Sorry to hear your initial experience with the CZ-82 hasn't proven as impressive as considered typical to new owners. The CZ-82 is usually one of those pistols that are full of pleasant surprises. Seems that didn't happen here.

Google "Vz. 82 9x18" ammo, the Czechs use a sintered IRON (as in ATF 'AP' round) round, I believe 63gr. loaded about 20-25% hotter than 9mak. It's why 82's have poly rifling, traditional would be ate up in no time, on a side note, in the 90's, late 80's Hungarian FEG PA-63's were sold with 200 rounds of 'black 9mak' as a package from some distributors.
so if you see a PA-63 with a cracked frame and reamed bore, now you know why.

I just recently got my first CZ 82 also and FEG PA-63. Both are accurate but my CZ blows everything else I have out of the water when it comes to accuracy. I am surprised to hear that your groupings aren't satisfactory in your opinion. I can't suggest any more than what has already been said though. Just use it as an excuse to have to go to the range and shoot more :)

One thing I might add is that European pistols tend to have a slightly different sight picture than Western designs. They will shoot lower than you would expect based on your experience with most guns you find in the US. You just have to learn to adapt to having your target slightly more covered by the pistol. Soon you'll be able to shoot naturally with it.

Well I installed the 16lb. wolfff spring and it did reduce the recoil a bit. However, I'm still not too pleased with the gun. I have tried hornady, tulammo, silver bear, and fiocchi ammo and the gun is accurate with all of the above. The problem is I have trouble shooting it well. It's just not right for me. My fiance also had trouble hitting with it. Bummer...It's been 100% reliable so far as well. Just thought yall ought to know.
