All,

I was shooting my 9 mm CZ-85B and my Springfield Micro GI last week when the CZ experienced a couple of "failures" I could not explain.

Using two different magazines of WWB 115 gr. FMJs, the slide locked back in the middle of the magazine (near round 8 of 15). I just had to release the slide stop to continue shooting, but it seemed strange. I have put several hundred rounds through this gun using the same magazines and WWB load without any problems.

The slide stop spring did not seem overly loose, and worked fine during the rest of the session.

Possible theories:

1. The magazines are relatively cheap aftermarket Pro-Mags from CDNN bought to replace the single 10 rounder supplied w/ the gun in 1999. Maybe they are acting-up, but how?

2. After shooting my compact .45, my hand may be used to a position that places my trigger finger near the slide stop lever and pushes on it slightly during recoil (Note: I am left-handed).

Any other theories would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Hunter

Maybe you should try altering the your grip. I have seen bad grips cause as many problems as anything. I shouldn't say "bad grip". Every gun is like a woman and responds to a certain touch...

Is worth considering anyway. CZ's are pretty tight BTW and need about 1,000 rounds to break them in smoothly.

This can happen if the mag springs are getting weak. (Pro-Mags for CZs can be good mags if you replace the springs with Wolff springs as soon as they show they're dying. I'll bet yours are dying.)

When the springs get weak, the top round can move around a bit, and during the slide being moved forward, it can catch the round under the slide and push it against the slide stop -- or the round can just move around under recoil.

I've had this happen a number of times and a new mag spring is the most common remedy.
