There are some guys who claim that the ambidextrous CZ-85B or CZ-85 Combat is not as durable as the standard CZ-75B because it has a bigger hole on the right side for the ambidextrous slide stop. Is it really true? I am really worried. I expect from my CZ-85B to last at least its frame (which is the main problem here), its barrel and slide for 30,000 rounds. If my frame is going to crack before 30,000 I am ready to get rid of my pistol! Please help.
How many rounds have you fired through your CZ-85B (left hand version), what did you break?

Irfran,

I personally feel you're worried about nothing. There have been issues with all pistols, Sig's, Beretta's, 1911's, Glock's, you name it.

My SP-01, which uses essentially the same frame as the 85B, has about 3,000 rounds through it - no issues, in fact, virtually no wear. My CZ-97B has over 4,000 rounds down the pipe and a few people have had the bottom barrel lugs break.

If you listen to the naysayers, all you would own is a hickory stick. A naysayer recently had a way to long thread on how the CZ slide stop is a faulty design, that the stops routinely break at 1,500 rounds. In this particular thread, it was noted how the much vaunted Sig P-210 was prone to cracking it's frame, and this is $2,000.00 plus pistol.

Someone forgot to tell the original slide stops they should be broken by now in my SP and 97B, which are original and still going strong. All pistols and their components have a service life. If your 85B is "only" good for 30,000 rounds, remember it fondly as you go buy another. 30K rounds is a tremendous amount of shooting. My guess is, if you ever did crack your 85 frame, CZ would probably replace it.

Relax, take a deep breath, and stop worrying.

if slide stops break at 1,500 rounds, then i'm long overdue at 20,500 round of high power ammo. oh, and i don't even shoot as much as the rest of the ipsc shooters. people like angus hobdell probably shoot 10,000-15,000 rounds in the week or so before big championships using off the shelf slide stops and frames. not to mention that several CZ models pass vigorous NATO testing.

I shoot my CZ75B in IPSC. I have approximately 6k rounds through it and I havn't replaced anything.

come to think of it, i'm approaching 1,200/month if i skip steel matches and pin shoots. by that metric, i should be replacing my slide stop almost every month.

my frame and slide stop are still just fine.

Irfan,

Yep, your 85 is junk just like my CZ-85 COMBAT. PM me and I'll buy it off you for $200, just to put your mind at ease.

Irfan....
I bought my 85 only a few months ago, and I have approx 1500 rds through it. Previous owner stated a 2000 rd count. That being said...
What people are telling you is horsbleep. The CZ is one of the most durable designs out there and the 85 is as durable. That ambi hole does not affect the frames rigidity in the least. I know of 3 85 shooters that are well into the 50K round counts, ipsc and target shooters. These guys have all owned their guns for at least a decade and the only thing I know that has been replaced due to breakage is the rear sight of a combat model that was dropped.
It sounds to me as if you might be looking for a reason to dump the pistol for something you might be coveting a little more. I suggest you shoot it, you will grow to love it. If you dump it you will eventually get another... that is exactly what I did. I speak from experience.

What does not get mentioned often is that there was a run of CZ frames that were slightly out of spec when the slide stop hole was drilled. This is what caused the slide stops to fail in that run. Take that w/a grain of salt, since you are refering to an 85B. That being said, why don't you hold onto that 85B till it breaks. Take it to the range and shoot the crap out of it. I'm betting you forget about it before the frame fails.

lol, you called it. he asked this same question in middle of 2007 regarding his 85, and has several threads questioning CZ reliability. lame.
