Im looking for a good target, varmint, and coyote gun. I was thinking the
CZ 527 Varmint or the Savage 12FV. Any reviews, sugestions, and photos would be great, THANKS

CZ...see my response to your last thread.

Edit: I will also add, the Savages do tend to be heck of a shooters and seem to be tough as nails. However, I like the fit, finish, triggers, quality workmanship and design of the CZ's. While the "Accu-trigger is novel and maybe an immprovement...it is by far no means a substitute to the SS set triggers of the CZ. When set, a CZ set trigger "is either on or gone"...nothing in between. I love these and they alone are worth another hundred or two to me. They are also easily and fully adjustable at home. IMHO, once you get used to them you won't want anything else. Lastly, keep in mind you can still shoot them inn the standard trigger setting as well, but the set is nice when you want it.

Never heard of an unhappy owner of either.

Accu-trigger vs. set trigger. I think it comes down to which stock you like best and which fire control system you prefer.

The CZ's CRF doesn't hurt, but it's not a feature that offers anything of real value for target and varmint shooting, unless you are trying to stop a ferocious charging prairie dog, or shooting them from a tree stand.:D

I have a Savage and while I think it is a solid gun I think I would have rather saved up for the CZ. No particular reason, I just like the looks and feel of them better.

I just read this month's GUNS magazine and it has an article about Savage's new precision varminter. It's a single shot, with a right handed bolt handle, but a LEFT side ejection port. It's perfect for bench shooting and there were pics of some .24'' groups out of the box. The author said his demo rifle shot an average of .25''.

I also own a 12fvss, the stock sucks, but good rifle. Haven't shot a CZ yet.

If you care about fit, finish and aesthetics. Get the CZ. It costs more, will shoot just as accurately, and is pretty.

The Savage is the most accuracy for the money. But they are fugly.

I have owned both. I prefer CZs now, but savage rifles deserve respect.

Recently finished setting up a Savage 12VLP, in .223, for my nephew. This is the model with the low profile wooden laminated stock & stainless metal-work. Used a Farrell one piece Weaver mount, Warne Maxima low rings, & a Bushnell Elite 4200 6-24X40 scope. This turned out to be a really nice rifle & pretty hard to beat for an off the shelf varmint rifle.
I also set-up two Savage 10FP's, in .308, one for myself & one for my son (who's 27). Both have the same mount/rings/scope combos as my nephew's 12VLP. My son's rifle has the Choate Ultimate Varmint stock while mine has the Bell & Carlson Medalist Tactical/Varmint stock. Both rifles are serious shooters. The Accutrigger is a "excellent" trigger for an out of the box rifle - lowest poundage setting is approx. 2 1/2 lbs. - way too much for a competitive trigger.
The ony CZ experience I have is with their rimfire rifles. I must say the fit & finish, on the CZ's, is outstanding. These have also needed trigger work to enable them to shoot.

While the CZ's set trigger is nice when actually set, I have yet to feel one out of the box that did not have a horribly gritty, creepy, standard pull. I am not a fan of the "breath on it and it shoots" set trigger. Give me a nice 1-3lb. normal trigger and I am set. (No pun intended).:)

I have both. A 10FP that now wears a factory laminated LP stock and a CZ Kevlar.

Both shoot well under an inch, but the CZ is easier to pack around if you have to move much. Both shoot the 52 gr. to 77 gr. Sierras very well.

Would not want to give either one up.
