I am having a tough time deciding on my 1st .45. I am down to a sig 220 or CZ97. Both feel great in my hand and have wonderful trigger's! Truthfully, I like the ruger P90 the best but I cant get past that LONNNGGGG ruger trigger pull:cuss: I would like the input of anyone who owns/shoots these two pistols!

P220 all the way. You will not be disapointed. CZ makes an excellent pistol, but my heart belongs to Sig

I've owned at least a half dozen examples of each.

Both are fine pistols. The CZs can be a bit more finicky than the P220 about what they eat, but that's usually a curable thing if you have that issue. The CZ is higher capacity, and in turn is a lot thicker and heavier. Both point naturally for most folk, and (if the CZ fits your hand) its ergonomics aid in practical accuracy by making your indexing more consistent. In other words, it's generally easier to be accurate without trying with the CZ than with, say, the Sig. But the Sig, once you get the mechanics of the draw and grip down, is capable of equal, if not slightly better, mechanical accuracy. Both are capable of stellar mechanical accuracy; better than most semiautos.

I know of few failures in the CZ-97B line, and I know of few failures in the P220 line. Both are robust and failures are usually due to manufacturing booboos rather than any design flaws in the pistol.

The Sig can now be had in SA (that's a relatively new variant that I've not yet shot) or their traditional DA/SA mode with decocker only. The CZ is a DA/SA pistol with a manual safety. Some folks prefer the flexibility of the CZs system, and some folks prefer the security of a decocker and a long DA first shot pull. The Sig DA trigger pull tends to stack a lot more at the end than the CZ; I can keep my CZ's first DA shot far closer to the subsequent SA shots than I can with the Sig. I hear that there are some fine gunsmiths that can make the Sig DA trigger equal to or better than the CZ, but I don't know who. It's nice that the CZ comes with a decent DA pull out-of-the-box.

In the end, if the pistol will be a range or HD pistol than either will do well. If the pistol is likely to be carried, the P220 will be far more comfortable due to its thinner profile and alloy frame.

It all comes down to how you want to use it.

Sig all the way

...

First, I love the "get a 1911" crowd.. loyalty carved in stone, and a legend in the archives of mans achievements in gun design..

But for those of us that, both, want a DA/SA triggered, with "Manual hammer cocking" options, as not to carry with a cocked hammer, then we talk about the CZ vs Sig.

From my personal experience it came down to a few main issues.

Weight and balance (which includes weight of gun in CCW mode all day)

Draw and point-balance, ease, natural feel, with extended lengths of time in a holding point and aim mode.

Ease or unease of slide action, and manual hammer cock.

And do I need, or want, a safety mode.

The winner of all these issues was, and is, Sig for me.

The most important feature that really highlighted all the above issues was, and is, the fact, that Sigs "decock only" feature, and the "placement of the decock lever-design" of it for easy, non-fail, no-brainer (no need to think how or where) to use it with my left thumb "while maintaining" a balanced, 2 hand grip, being able to tone-down a controlled situation back to DA mode, from SA mode.

And, unlike my Beretta, where I lose the "good 2 hand grip" to use its decocker, and even though its decocker works, every time, it still lets the hammer hit hard with that loud click, even though the rear exposed firing pin moves UP and I know it cannot (in theory and its design) fail, it might, it could, but I always grit my teeth when I use it, as compared to Sigs, perfect location and their 2 stage release platform, being its soft, quiet, effortless, use, while the hammer stays recessed from the firing pin, as you see it when it is in DA mode.

Sigs 220 is my next gun without doubt and for the above reasons, along with my Sig 229 9mm's continued, perfect, 850 rounds thus far, with no FTF's nor jams.

CZ's are FINE guns, make no mistake, but it should always come down to: in the eye and HAND, of the be-Holder.

It's that good.

I'd get neither. Instead, get the USP 45.

Reliability and durability out of the box. It's quality of workmanship that you can see, smell, and feel.

The HK fanatics have finally lost it...

Go with the CZ. Same quality in a cheaper package. Spend the rest on mag and ammo.

GLOCK 21 = .45 acp-

I chose a GLOCK for the reliability factor. :) It is a tough pistol, has yet to malfunction. Not the first jam or misfire. The only thing I would like to make an adjustment to is the trigger. Being DA only makes the trigger a bit heavy. Other than that, no issues at all. Try it, you may like it, = (JOMHO).

If the CZ97 fits your hand well (it's a bit large for mine) it's a good gun for less money than the SIG 220. The SIG 220 is also a very nice pistol as you've seen. Last, if you like the Ruger P90 I'd also recommend checking out the P345 if you haven't already. The P345s I've handled have nicer and shorter triggers than the P90s.

ugaarguy I picked up the 345 when I was checking out the P90...I dont know what it was but it just didnt feel right in my hand:( As I stated before I like the P90...its just that long gritty trigger I cant get past! The practical side of me says get the P90+1000 rounds+holster for the same price of the Sig...but really how often do you get to buy a Sig!!!

I have a CZ 97B -- it's a great shooter. If you really like the Ruger, you can try changing out the hammer spring and lightening up the trigger pull (although it won't change the length of travel).

I've had a Sig...sold it. I still have three CZ's, though. They are great guns and a great value.

I love CZ's and have 2 - soon to be 3. In that caliber however, the P220 is a better gun overall IMHO.

Question about the CZ-97.. Is it possible to make a CZ kadet conversion fit the 97? That's what really turns me onto CZ pistols is the .22LR conversion for the 75s (I believe).

Is it possible to make a CZ kadet conversion fit the 97?
I believe (from visually looking at 'em, without measuring) that the frame's slide rail dimensions are different on a CZ97B relative to the CZ75 family, meaning that the Kadet kit will not fit on the CZ97B.
