Hi All:

I’ve been really impressed with my high-falootin’ CZ Shadow 2 Orange and Tactical Sport 2 Orange pistols, so I wanted to see if the CZ magic extended down through the bloodline to the more mundane offerings. I also found myself lacking a simple, accurate, reliable and inexpensive DA/SA 9mm somehow, so when I saw a P-09 at the store the other day, I had to handle it.

I had positive initial impressions - it was full-sized and comfortable in the hand, that sits pretty low in the hand courtesy of the characteristic slide-in-frame configuration. The grip texture is fine but could use a little more aggression (easily fixed with some Talon stick-ons). The DA trigger pull is stiff and heavy, but smooth. SA suffers from a lot of pre-travel but then breaks at a respectable 4 lbs with a little, bitty smidge of creep. Price, brand new with two 19round magazines? On sale for a little less than $400. Done!

I went straight to the range with a 100 rounds of 115 grain WWB and hammered the plates between 10 and 50 yards. The sights were well-regulated from the factory and I found the gun to be accurate and easy to shoot. It’s a great value, and I like the gun enough to put a little money and time into it to make it better. I just ordered some Cajun Gun Works trigger goodies and will plan to polish all the internals. I think I should be able to get the DA pull to under 8lbs and the SA around 3.5lbs. That’ll be perfect. No optics cut but I think I’ll leave it that way. Simple, basic, unadulterated.

Any other fans of the P-09 out there?

Thanks!

I got mine on sale, really cheap

It's a 40 S&W which isn't as popular these days, but I don't care, and neither does my DILLON XL650

It's a wonderful handgun

CAJUN GUN WORKS parts made it even nicer

Not a P09 mainly because I felt the longer grip frame was just a little bit too long and awkward for my smaller size hand. Found the P07 much more to my liking. I did change out the decocker for the frame mounted manual safety. Works fine and I like how solid and substantial the gun is.

I bought my P-09 used a few years ago, and it's a smooth shooter.
My trigger gauge says DA = 6llbs 4oz and SA is 1 lb 14oz.
Like I said, it's smooth, and I don't know if there's been work done to it or if it's just naturally that way.
Can't go wrong with any of the CZ family.

IMG_3357.jpeg After the Cajun Gun Works goodies DA is 7 1/2 SA is 3 with a very short reset . But numbers don’t describe the improvement in smoothness .

That’s what I am looking forward to, Sir. What comp is that? Is that an OEM OR slide or did you have it milled? If the latter, who did the work?

Thank you . I made the comp , it’s 303 stainless . I milled the slide as well . It was a suppressor ready model so it came with a threaded barrel and suppressor height sights but the rear sight is a Glock Trijicon suppressor sight .

Riddle me this, fellers. Why are manufacturers persisting in square cut trigger guards, when the 'index finger on the guard' fell from fashion years ago? Just a personal prejudice, but Glock started it, and everyone has followed...giving us really fugly pistols.
I'm guessing 'gas pedals' will start sprouting on dust covers next, and we'll be looking at them long after the 'high speed/low drag' guys have moved on to something else. :(

Here I have a 75 in .40 and had one of the original CZ guns the turk army over runs in 9mm from hmm years ago and good guns. My only gripe is try to get a .357 barrel for one.
