I am thinking of getting back into .22 rifle shooting. I have my eye on a CZ, ZKM 452 Special, .22 LR. Can anyone give me some comments - good, bad or indifferent and any Maitenance or usage tips on this rifle?

Check out CZFORUM.COM as they have a rimfire topic board there.

Just ordered a CZ 527 Kevlar myself and plan on getting a CZ 452 or 453 later.

Hi. I'm the search function on this board.

I'm soooo lonely. Why doesn't anybody like me? I just want to help. Do I have bad breath? I mean, we talk about CZ 452's every week. Doesn't anybody want to know what's been said? Sigh.

What is this search function you refer to?
Seriously, buy the CZ, use the search function, you won't go wrong, best value in rifles today.

The 452 ZKM is probably my favorite rifle, and certainly my favorite rimfire. I've taken more small game with mine than I can count. It's incredibly accurate, esp. with lead CCI high vels. Noise level with that long barrel is very low. Balance is excellent, which makes it an easy field cary and brush gun in spite of the length. It feels like a tight, European-made commercial Mauser. Simply put, the CZ 452 ZKM is the finest rimfire for the money available today. Nothing else can touch it this side of a $700.

One thing I've noticed is a slight drop in quality and fit since they started getting popular. They're still fine rifles, but the ones with the "A" prefix seem to be less good than the earlier ones without the prefix. So check out the auction sites for a used one. I'd also advise against getting an "American" model with no sights. The tangents on the ZKM are fantastic, and neutralize the muzzle drop of the .22 LR out to 200 meters. They're a $100 value or more just on their own. Why anyone would get rid of them is beyond me.

I have multiple cz products. As far as rimfire goes, I have fired the lowest of the low end to high end kimbers, annies, b.b.'s, and others. That being said, I can confidently say that cz , in my opinion, makes the most accurate, the best fit and finish, the most beautiful, stock mass production rifles and pistols out there today. Everyone I know that owns a cz rifle or pistol, allways say that they got more for their money, than they did any other firearm they purchased.http://www.rimfirecentral.com/forums/
find the cz thread, this is the best cz, or most any other rimfire forum , on the web.

I have the CZ452 luxe model and its a tack driver. I don't like scopes on my .22's and this rifle defiantely doesn't need it. Great reliability and good looks...

Just picked one up 2 or 3 weeks ago. (Have 5 other 452s.) A very nice gun. Really like the rear sight in its build, ease of use, and adjustability. Also really like the front sight in its adjustability. I dd have a problem with the front sight, however. The blade is secured onto the graduated base via dovetail and a set screw. The set screw is slotted (as opposed to hex) and very small. I had no problem finding a blade to fit in the slot but in an attempt to loosen it after adjusting it once, the top of the screw broke. That is, the sides of the slot broke off.

The front sight is still on the base awaiting a new screw. I had contacted CZ about my problem when I got home from the range last Sunday via e-mail with photos. They got back to me Monday the following day saying a new screw is on its way. The screw size is M3-0.5. I think I will purchase some hex set screws instead in that size to prevent any future problems. I will have to knock the front sight off with a wooden dowel. Removing the front sight hood isn't too difficult, just pry apart to front of the hood with your fingers and scootch it forward a little. There are biscuit-type grooves in the middle of the slots that the hood clicks into and getting past this is the key to removing it.

I wanted to adjust the front sight so that the graduation marks on the rear sight would match up with the distance I was shooting at to zero the sights (50 yds).

Otherwise, the gun shoots very well and am happy with it and the rest of my 452s. [Note : Specials are now known as Trainers. My gun was marked Special.]

I've had my CZ 452 Lux for almost three years now and over 10,000 rounds fired. The Lux is the same as the special/trainer/military except for the type of wood used for the stock. Mine has been great and I've let over a dozen other people try it out. Everyone's been impressed and two have went out and bought their own. Two other guys have decided that when they do get around to buying their own .22lr rifles, they are gonna get a CZ 452 as well.

My only problem is that I used it to train a newbie and now he hogs it because it's such a fun and easy gun to shoot well.

My maintenance routine is to run a dry patch thru the bore, wipe the action and bolt with a little bit of CLP, and wipe the exterior of the rifle with a silicon cloth.

The only modifications I have done to the rifle are a Brooks trigger kit and adding a military shooting sling. I zeroed the sights for the Wolf match ammo and the rear sight ladder is good for 25, 50, 75, and 100 yards. At least, that's what I tested it for since my shooting range has distances marked in yards. I didn't test it any further since I don't expect to be shooting at anything more than 100 yards away with a .22lr.

Accuracy-wise, I was getting .75" groups at 50 yards with it pretty consistantly back when I was shooting it every week (using a sandbag on a bench). I suspect the rifle is a little more accurate than that, but unless I put a scope on it, I doubt I'll get much better than .75" with consistancy.

BTW, when you sight it in, use a magnetic gunsmith screwdriver set. Hope this helps.

Thanks guys, that's encouraging. I am already a member of the CZ Forum, I have a CZ-75B, but thought it might be a Tad prejudiced. I have added Rimfire Central to my favorites. I tried the Search function but it is a bit difficult to narrow it down to this rifle and find much. There will be one in my safe before the sun sets today.
