With the announcement that CZ is producing a carbine version of the Scorpion Evo 3, I find myself again excited to pick up a 9mm rifle for fun, and possibly home defense.

Anyone else planning to pick one of them up? Anyone have any info on when we will see them on the market?

I'm thinking about it, I can load 9mm on the progressive a lot faster than any of my rifle cartridges, so it could be a nice range toy. On the other hand, I had a Marlin Camp carbine, and ultimately decided that I didn't really have much of a use for it. The CZ Evo3 carbine is much cooler than the Marlin, but ultimately not a whole lot more practical.... I'll have to think on it for sure. I've heard that the MSRP on the CZ should be right around $1k, a street price of $800 would be tempting.

I've sold my last two 9mm carbines, keep thinking about another. I love ARs, but a 9mm AR I just don't find very appealing. The Evo 3, however, is a wicked looking little critter with some slick features. One mind find it's way into my stable, where it will be SBR and likely suppressed.

An SRT Arms integrally suppressed RRA 9mm upper and DDLES lower is a very appealing 9mm AR. It sounds and feels like shooting a paintball gun (probably doesn't feel like a paintball when you get hit by its projectile though). Haha.

I thought I'd revive my old thread since we are a few months closer to release of the 922r compliant carbines. I'm just curious if anyone has heard any more news. I've just heard that they're working on it.

Sounds good Craig! I just can't bring myself to register a gun. Sure wouldn't mine one though. Short or long, I think it's going to be a fun gun to shoot.

The pistol flat out rocks.

Mine is set up with the Thordsen's Cheek Rest and is a flawless running machine. I have thrown 3-4 thousand rounds through it, (don't keep track, too much fun to shoot!), and it never burps!
The EVO carbine has a much longer forearm which allows even more attachments for the gear hogs, ( ;) ), and looks like one heck of a lot of fun. Even in the slight difference of the 7.5 inch barrel over a 4 inch pistol barrel my EVO picked up an average of 100 FPS as well. :D

I stopped by a new gun shop today, and they had most everything. I asked if they had the cz carbine, and they said they had one earlier this week. Sold it in 10 minutes. So I guess they are out in the wild. Just scarce.

Yep, works great. Have yet to have a failure of any kind. Easy to push a 147 grain hollow point to 1080 FPS with the 8" barrel. Super quiet with the Ti-Rant suppressor. It's amazingly accurate. Breaks down for cleaning in seconds. And hopefully, some day, Sig will get their stuff together and get some 40 cal conversions out there.

When I was shopping and doing research on a sub gun, I had a chance to shoot the Evo, Kriss Vector, and the MPX. Of course there are dozens of evaluations on the web. The MPX won out by a large margin in my book.

Of course there are cheaper options.

Cheers,
Woolly

I have an SBR Scorpion with the factory folding stock. It is my favorite firearms to shoot. If you are thinking of running a suppressor on a pistol caliber carbine, the Scorpion is a great choice since it is direct blowback and you will not get gas in your face like you will with some other PCCs.

Here's another alternative:

For these sized packages, I do wish there was a readily available 7.62x25mm AR option.

I felt that way too (about the 7.62x25) when surplus was available ... its a great round but prices I've seen have been anywhere for 32/cents/round to over 50cents/round ... for prices like that I'll shoot 9mm ammo which has a wider variety of bullet/weight/power and better availability.

------------------

And no offence to Woolecox or any other MPX owner but I looked at a MPX at my local fun shop when they came out; it felt good for what it is but it's as heavy as my MP5 clone ... and with the reported issues of the MPX and MCX at introduction, I didn't want to deal it. I'm guessing SiG has addressed the issues as I haven't heard any complaints lately. The price of the MPX wasn't a prohibiting issue for me (not rich, I would have just saved up a little longer) but more of reputation and reliability; CZ's rep is impeccable, so ... I went with the Scorpion and the Bren 805P over the MCX. The lower price of the CZ was just a bonus ... MPX; $1700; CZ $800 ... SiG mag's; $70 or $20 for the CZ ... to be honest, and I hate saying it, but it seems like SiG has been putting out a Beta model of everything since the 556 came out, then in the next generation or two, fixing the bugs ... not to mention the ignoring what the buying public wants and build what the bean-counters tell them to ... then 3-4 years later offer what people wanted to begin with.

In fairness to SiG-USA I haven't had any problems from my 556Xi 7.62; in fact I've upgraded both, my 553P-SBR lower which I put on so I could use AR/NATO mag's and 922r compliance (I don't want to be a test case) ... and my early 556P-SBR lower to the 556Xi lowers for the nicer finish and SiG logo on the mag-well; likewise my 716 DMR was nearly perfect out of the box; even though they are new to the AR game, the AR has been being refined for something like 55 years, a person would expect it to be perfect.

Same here, no failures with several thousand rounds downrange, factory and handload, never used 147 grainers, but I do have a 124 XTP load that runs 1230+ FPS in the 7.5 inch Scorpion barrel without issue. :) Nice to play with extra barrel length for more velocity.

has anybody tried loading lead reloads in the scorpion? do they run? will a soft 9mm run or does it need to be full bore factory?

Yes, all the time, 124 gr Lee home cast powder coated. They run pretty decently. This target was shot with the single point sling, kneeling at 65 yards.

Right AFTER that one...

Not terrible, not fantastic. I get better accuracy with Berrys Target Hollow Points and Hornaday XTPs, but the Lees cast slugs are DIRT cheap for me to make, and make it a little bit more challenging at longer ranges. And, for data, the 124gr slug over 5 grains of Unique chronoed at 1235, over 6.8 gr AA#7 chronoed at 1237. My standard cast load is 6.4 grains of AA#7, a reasonably light load that chronoes at just over 1050 in a 4" barrel - didn't have any the last time the Scorpion and I were at the range at the same time. :) Powder coated lead of a reasonable hardness leaves darn little leading, and I ran it for about 2000 rounds before cleaning. Why? Why not. No malfunctions at all.

Another ditto ... for my Scorpion. I've shot 115's 125's and 147 subs all without issue;

I have time ... and a Dillon 550B, so if its more than $10 a box I reload them ... for all my guns ... I think everything my Scorpion eats is reload.

I reload my own 223, 308, 300BO and 8mm Mauser ... for pistol 380, 9mm and 45

I run 147gr powder coated bullets exclusively through my Scorpion. They are very accurate and suppress well. I have never tried plain lead without powder coat.
