Same action as the bigger guns. More rudimentary rear and front sight. Simple leaf spring rear adjusted with a collar that sets into grooves cut into the barrel. Front sight is dovetailed into the barrel (drift adjustable) but hooded. Trigger and action is the same as the regular guns except the 513 which is, although full sized, is even more rudimentary than the 452 internally, hence its name 513 Basic. (With the exception of the number of bolts for the action and their/its location.)
When I had decided to buy a small bolt action a few years ago to use to teach my nieces and nephew with, I had decided on the older Marlin 15YN. At the time CZs were not as popular as they are today and had I examined a 452 Scout, I would have bought that instead. (Eventually, I did buy one, found the grain pattern of the stock to be too pretty to use and bought another to use as a training rifle for the little kids.)
The Marlin is too small for me. I cannot get a good comfortable sight picture. I have to tilt my head to line up the sights as the comb of the stock is too high for me. I also use the rear portion of the stock as the profile is Monte Carlo and the back portion is lower. The Marlin is single shot. The CZ is mag fed and comes witha single shot adaptor. The regular 5 and 10 round CZ .22 lr/.17 HM2 mags also work.
The gun is easy to shoot for adults, though some taller folks at Rimfire Central have complained the Scout to be too small. It shoots fine for me 5'10"/210#.
Quality-wise, the Scout is at the same level as the regular CZ guns. It is much much better than the Marlin. This is the one I kept for myself.
Only mod that would improve the CZ gun is to fix the creep in the trigger. A number of ways to do this. It does have 11 mm grooves. The one I use for my nieces and nephew has a Leup 3-9X33 EFR on it. Action will be a bit rough at first but will smooth out.
Of the Marlin and the CZ, without a question, the CZ.
