Second productional line of new Scorpion EVO3 S1 is out.
I finally got a chance to shoot the one my pal just recently purchased.
Even though gun is brand new, it needed no "break in" and first 300 round were flawless and we shot junk ammo - weak 124gr factory reloads and MFS steel case. I really like the mag release - easy to operaty either by trigger finger or by thumb. Charging handle (nonreciprocating) can by put on both sides and it has cut at rear where you can lock it and it works as bolt hold device (just like on MP40 or MP5). Bolt catch/release is only on left side right where you can reach it by you index finger. Stock is folding to the right and collapsible, pistol grip can be moved back and forward by +- 5mm - to adjust to ideal lenght between finger and mag release.

At video you can se my struggle with bolt release - I thought bolt was open but it was actually closed :banghead: Them i charged it and accidentally locked the charging handle back. - the handle should definitely be on right side for me.
You can also see that it recoils more downwards than upwards as carbines usually do, I couldnt get used to it.

I`am looking forwad to see what it can do at greater distances - 50-100m. I`ll post target pictures once we shoot it outdoors.
I considered to buy one too, but word is Czech Small Arms is about to make vz.58 in 9mm luger, so that would be my future choice.

Sorry for crappy photo, couldnt make my camera to work properly in those light conditions (and also sorry for my grammar).
If you wonder why i put it in "handgun" category, its because its legally "selfloading pistol" and not rifle.

That may be so in Čechy, but in the USA the moment you put that shoulder stock on it it becomes a Short-Barreled Rifle, which is a restricted type of firearm regulated by our 1934 National Firearms Act.

At any rate, it sure is cool! :)

... but how much are one of those?
I don't believe there would be any way to import one to the USA for sale to any private citizen. There are several legal hurdles that bar entry.

CZ could probably make that gun here, with a different receiver so that it could not have a folding stock. Or they could make it with the stock but for sale only through SOT 3 Dealers, to folks who pass the background check and pay the $200 registration tax.

Yup! We've got it pretty darned good here in the US of A, as far as gun stuff goes, but those boys sure have their fun!

Maybe one day Bohemus will stop down at the factory and ask them to build a version of the 75B-"Omega" trigger system that isn't so bad... ;)

Sam1911: Sorry for wrong category, should i delete my post?

Quality management and Customer service in CZ-UB? You wish...

JHenry: i thought my CZenglish was apparent, but Iam glad it is understandable:)

75B Omega ... "Quality management and Customer service in CZ-UB? You wish..."

Yeah, so this one time I loaned my Omega to Angus Hobdel and he tried the trigger and asked me if I maybe should consider a Glock! :neener:

(Hey, it could happen!) :D

Sam, you can't get it here because it is also select fire. EVO would rock the house if they made it in 10mm or 357 SiG...and we could legally import them to US civilians.
vz-58 in 9mm? I doubt it, but the Skorpion vz-61 might come in from CSA in 9x18mm to the US sometime soon.

Interesting, but the translated page says it was an experiment from the 90s. If they can find buyers for ARs in 9mm, they can do it with vz-58s, we'll see.
The 380 version is coming in to CzechpointUSA soon, the 9x18 version is to follow.

Honestly, my first guess was that you were an American who was living in the Czech Republic for some reason. Your grammar is probably better than half the native speakers on this forum. :p

Or maybe :uhoh:.

...they could import it as a semi-auto pistol.
Maybe.

It would have to "score" high enough on the ATF's factoring criteria worksheet: http://www.atf.gov/forms/download/atf-f-5330-5.pdf

And it would have to meet the rules of 925(3)d, including the stupid "sporting purposes" non-military language. From what I've read, the mag being located forward of the grip may be a stumbling block.

In the end, CZ would have to get a declaration from the BATFE, if they cared to try.

Unless Google Chrome's translate feature is lying to me that version is semi-auto. and for sporting purposes. :D

Sporting rifles and carbines
....
CZ Scorpion S1 EVO 3 is only semi-automatic variant of the latest generation of CZ rifles. Since the model A1 S1 version differs inability firing rates and the shift key lever / manual safety has only two positions: secured and shooting single shots. In all other respects, the S1 model retains the excellent ergonomic properties and firing his predecessor business and is the ideal weapon for the modern sports dynamic shooting disciplines.

Slap a 16" barrel on it, and sell it here with a complementary Form 1 and hacksaw. I'd buy it.

Bohemus, what are the gun laws like in the Czech Republic? Can a private citizen own a firearm like that?

Generally speaking our laws are restrictive, e.g. full auto Scorpion requires collection licence (shall issue, no problem there), exception to purchase ("may issue", rarely issued) and you wont be able to carry it.
Semiauto Scorpion (and generally any semiauto pistol, rifle or revolver) requires gun licence (shall issue) and can be carried for self-defence - e.g. owner of this Scorpion brought it to shooting range on one-point sling, loaded (and concealed in plastic bag) through half of Prague using public transport without breaking single law.
Wikipedia puts it quite correctly:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_politics_in_the_Czech_Republic

Wow, if you think that's restrictive, you should come up north to Scandinavia some time.

Very cool gun laws, I hope we get there some day.

I really need to visit the Czech Republic some day. I have four CZ firearms, the rest of the country should be just as amazing.

Bohemus, this is going to sound somewhat odd, but I was the same way. Firearms are one of the Czech Republic's best ambassadors.

Before college, all I knew about the Czech Republic (besides its location and its capital city, and status as part of a former Warsaw Pact member) was that they make firearms that are both high-quality and competitively priced. Being a film lover, I decided to take the Czech New Wave Cinema course, in which I learned not only about the Czechoslovak film industry and all those great directors that they had in the '60s, but also about a lot of Czech culture from the 20th century. Czech culture, from the art to the humor, is cooooooool. I'll definitely visit some day.

Fact is, a country's engineering says a lot about its character, or at least people think so. When American gun enthusiasts see a European double-action automatic which can be carried with the hammer cocked and the safety on, our ears prick up like a dog's.

The more I shoot it the more I like it.
Have to do something with my income and buy one myself.

thanks bohemus for sharin, and links. nice evo:cool: if for some reason they wont bring the evo statside, csa should really consider the vz58 in 9mm you posted, that things is so frickin cool "old school" 16" barrel w/fake can should be the winner here statside:) i would definately buy this over thier vz .223 version and the original style scorpion
PIC00010.jpg

ifit: that vz. (buldog) was old prototype of smg, this is semi-auto:
CSA vz.58 9mm
Mags should be for MP5 and constructers talked about .45ACP version. Unfortunately, even the 9mm one is delayed - it should be available during fall.
And the barrel lenght seems exportable to USA ;-)
Hope they will make shorter one for CZ - I see no point of 9mm carbine with barrel longer than original vz.58.
