I picked up a new CZ40P on Saturday and this has to be the worst trigger of any CZ I've ever had. I currently have a CZ75B SA and I love this gun. I put a snap cap in the 40 and added some rig grease to the sear and hammer hook and dry fired all evening, but it actually seemed to make the trigger pull worse than when I started. I thought I might flush out the area with some gun scrubber and apply some more grease and see if that helps any. Anyone got any other suggestions, and do you think a trigger job is the only alternative???

Don't really have any for sure answers. My CZ40B has a good trigger, maybe you lose something with the plastic frame.

I find Dupont Performance Dry Multi-Use with Teflon lube (in the blue spray cans from Lowes for $5) works well to slick up a trigger. I used to use Break Free CLP. I don't think grease is a good here as it attracts and holds dirt and grit.

The spray carrier washes away crud and leaves a slick film when dry.

You may need a real gunsmith's trigger job.

I have a suggestion based upon my three CZs...

On my 75B, I flushed the area of all grease & oil. I held the hammer back and pulled the trigger to expose the sear and hammer hooks. With a Q-tip, I coated the surfaces liberally with Flitz. I then dry fired SA several hundred times followed by a thorough cleaning again. The last step was to apply a small amount of Tetra grease on the sear and hooks. The trigger is noticeably better now.

(Decide for yourself if you want to do this...)

I decided to, via trial and error, remove some coils from my 75B's hammer spring. I stopped after 3 complete coils. After several hundred rounds since then with NO misfires/light strikes, I couldn't be more pleased with the results. Moreover, I haven't had any failures when shooting with my .22lr Kadet Conversion Kit installed on the same frame.

When I get around to it, I plan on making he same mod to my P-01...then maybe my RAMI.

Wally and Catbird, Thanks so much for the suggestions. I think I'll give the flitz a try and maybe trim some off the mainspring.

You guys have to realize what started with the PO1 /CZ40P frames.......every CZ trigger mechanism part was hand finished until the PO1 came out. At that point they got their machining tolerances close enough that they dont have to do that anymore....a big step in reducing the time spent on every gun.
Now the triggers dont have that OUTATHEBOX smoothness CZ's were known for......but they are still good on most guns. And get better with dry firing and shooting........
They typically are more gritty than the previous guns Ive had in the past........
Shoot well......

Catbird, I tried your method except I didn't have any flitz so I use polishing compound. Dry fired several hundred times while I kept adding more polish. I also took 3 coils off the mainspring. All flushed out and relubed I went out back and put just a couple of mags thru it at my range. Seems to be a nice improvement and I believe it will get better the more I shoot it. Thanks again for you suggestions......... :)

Blacksnowman approach

I did the procedure as outlined by Blacksnowman (didn't have his fine directions at the time) plus smoothed up the trigger bow as there were some heinous machine marks that were rubbing against the frame. The result was a significantly improved DA pull which is what I was after. I would seriously recommend watching that little firing pin safety spring. I taped it to a piece of paper 'cause it's small.

The other alternative is to send it to CZ or check out the czforum for Mr. Farrar's work. You don't hear of too many smiths specializing in CZ trigger jobs. Good luck!
