Love the CZ452. I bought the FS model, and it just points well and is a handy rifle.

I tried last night to mount my Burris 3-9 scope on it, but the ring height was a bit on the low side, as the objective lense fouled the rear sight leaf. Even if it had fit, the aesthetics were such that the scope would have dominated the rifle. We can't have that.

So as I see it, I have two choices. 1) Get higher rings and continue on with Plan A, the Burris 3-9; or, 2) Get a different scope. (Version 3 has removal of the rear sight as an option... but I'd rather not.)

I've always been fond of the short scopes with no objective bell. The straight tube type scopes which flare at the ocular lens. I wonder which of the currently available scopes would work well in this application?

Suggestions?

I just put a Weaver 3-9 x 32 with an adjustable objective on my CZ 452. I had already removed the leaf for another scope, so I'm not sure if that's required or not. For leaf removal (no tools required), search on rimfire central for good guidance on that, if need be. Anyway, the scope is among Weaver's Classic Rimfire Series, and definitely does not dominate the rifle. However, it does flare for both the occular and objective. I'll try to post a pic if I can find some time.

Natchez had them on sale for $199.95 last month. Maybe still?

I haven't tried it out at the range yet, but after "scoping" out things in the backyard, I think it's going to work out pretty well. :)

The FS was designed to be used with the iron sights. I have lux with the same stock angle and tangent sights and owned a FS in 17hmr... you would be surprised at how well you can hit objects out to 100 yards with the irons.

If you are absolutely set on a scope try to find a good low powered 2-7x scope... they look best on the CZ 452 FS IMHO or just stick to a good fixed 4x scope like I currently have on my lux. I have the Weaver shotgun fixed 4x scope that is on clearance at Natchez. Its a great scope for about $80... nice and compact, rugged, parallax set at 50 yards, standard duplex reticle, etc.

stubbicat, I had a similar dilemma, except mine was a BRNO #1. I had a Weaver K2.5 that fit fine with fairly low rings, and didn't require removing the rear sight (pictured below). But honestly if you're never going to be using the irons, might as well tap the rear one out. I ended up going with another Weaver, and old 4X, and having just that extra bit of magnification and a different sight picture (the K2.5 was the post type) made a world of difference. I've been able to post 1.5" groups at 75 yards with that rifle since the switch.

Head over to rimfirecentral and ask for some pics from other FS owners.

I think the straight tube scopes look the cleanest on the FS's, if I ever run across a nicely figured FS stock it'll be coming home with me. I'm afraid to order one as I know I'd get about the plainest thing imaginable.

Leupold 1.5-5, older weavers, think Burris still has a few, or they at least did?

Keep an eye out on feebay

grimjaw, nice looking BRNO...

I have a CZ 452 FS with a Weaver 2.5-7x28 rimfire scope. The scope is short enough to fit in front of the rear leaf sight. I used Burris Signature Rimfire/Airgun rings in medium height. Here is a picture of the rifle:

Any scope that is shorter than 11.7 inches should fit in "front" of the rear sights. The Weaver 2.5-7x28 scope, Burris Timberline (even the 4.5-14x32 is short enough), and the Leupold rimfire scopes in 2-7x28 will work this way.

Even with the 7x scope, my FS is a shooter. Here are five 5-shot groups at 50 yards off a bench with this scope and Wolf MT ammo:

I like the gun with a smaller scope -- and it is just totally fun to shoot.

Good luck with your scoping project!

Bingo, if the scope chosen is short enough to get the front of the scope behind the back of the rear sight, then it doesn't matter whether it has an objective bell or not - you can get it very low, which is what you want. If you use a straight bell scope or up to 28mm bell, then you can use low rings. If you use flared bell in the 32-40mm range, you can use medium rings.

Now, if the scope MUST go over the rear sight, then you probably DO want a no-bell objective scope (unless the use mandates a larger one - see below). In this case, you can at least crank the rear sight to as low as it will go in order to gain a mm or two of extra clearance.

So, regardless of bell size, the principle is the same - on a .22 rifle in particular (and on a HUNTING .22 in particular), if the scope is your primary sighting device, then you want the scope as low as you can possibly get it, so that the POI is close to the POA at close ranges. Now as for which scope, that depends on budget and most of all, use, neither of which we know.

What are you going to USE it for? Target shooting or hunting? If target shooting, at what distances? 10 yards, 25 yards, 50 yards, more?

What's the budget for the scope?

FWIW, on one CZ 452 (Scout), I have a Burris "Compact" 3-9x33mm, and one one CZ 452 (Lux), I have a Bushnell Banner 1.5-4.5x32mm, in high see-through rings, idea on this one being utilize the excellent sights found on the Lux (and the FS) at short ranges, then employ the scope for longer shots (on longer shots, the scope being low doesn't matter - the point of impact has risen up to the line of sight by 30-40 yards out).

Thanks guys for the input.

Some of these photos are really choice. The rifle has nice solid walnut, but a plastic nose cap. Not so crazy about the plastic. Plastic magazine also.

Seems to shoot well. I am reluctant to drift out the rear sight. But may do so just the same. We'll see.

Update: Rear sight came off so easily, that I simply installed the scope without it. Can't use it with the scope installed anyways.

Very nice rig.

Now I have one of each, 452, 527, and 550. These rifles are really just super.
