I recently purchased a CZ American 457 in 17HMR, it has the 24" tapered barrel and some beautiful wood on it. Well I ordered some BKL rings to mount one of my scopes on it, 4-20x50mm. Well it looks like the hubble telescope on it and I just cant put it on there. It completely messes up the rifles looks.

Can anyone help me select a scope/ring combination for this rifle based on their experiences? I plan to use it squirrel hunting and prefer a higher end (Magnification) on my squirrel rifles.

Been looking at a Meopta Optika 5 4-20x44 it has a 1" tube.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I had that exact gun with both the 22 barrel and the 17.... The 17 shot fantastic but I generally shot 22s more so I sold both barrels and rebuilt the gun.

Anyway, I would stick to 42 mm or smaller objectives. If I was going to recommend something, I think I'd take a hard look at the clear ridge scopes ..... I'd also probably take a look at the Athlon Argos HMR 2-12.
And on the cheaper side of things, Athlon Talos.

My buddy has a Athlon Neos 6-18 x44 on his 457, I liked it a lot. I am thinking about getting one myself for my 452. What do you advise Loonwolf, that one or step up a little?

Honestly i didnt see a ton of difference between the Neos and Talos 'cept the turrets on the talos were a little cleaner. That could have just been my particular samples tho.
If one has a power range or size you prefer thats probably the one id choose.... personally i like 4-16s which leads me to a Talos.

I wish they made a 3-18 Argos HMR with a 42mm object....but for not a lot more money the 2-12x42 is a noticeable step up from the Talos.

The Droptine thats been suggested is another good option.
Personally i cant tell the difference in glass between those and the FF2s, least not in decent light.
Only real downside to the burris options is the minimum focus distance is 50yds.

Thanks. I need good focus down to 25 yards or less. Not sure what I will do. If I feel up to it I am going to a Turkey shoot tomorrow. The rifle I shot the prove it target is at my cabin so I will use my other one which I have not shot for a couple years but I have won with it before. Both could use upgraded scope.

Took it to the range today. Not the best conditions. 10-15 gusting winds from my 7 o’clock.
Shot 20gr Hornady XTP, 17gr CCI VMAX, and 17gr CCI FMJ
The overall average for 12 five shot groups was .58 at 50 yards.

The CCI FMJ just barely edged the rest.

I’m not a good bench shooter, and sure not with a rifle this light. Gotta concentrate on this girl. she would put 3 into a cloverleaf and then 2 out.

I know you have a scope already and that's great, but a lot of guys on the rimfirecemtral website like the weaver grand slams. Decent glass and compact form factor. My 455 is wearing a 3-12x grand slam.
