I went into Angus's shop in Mesa to buy a Bladetech Holster today. I was dead set on buyting a Sig 226 for steel and Idpa this week, I also shoot single stack .45.

However he showed me a nice CZ SP01 for around $750. Its a nice gun. What is a better gun for IDPA, Steel and USPSA? I will mainly shoot my .45 but would like a 9mm for fun runs.

The CZ, hands down. Less flip, better ergonomics, better tracking, lower bore.

$750 Included customizing, trigger, sight and reliability. How do the CZ's hold up their value?

An SP01 at my LGS is $579.

It's a CZ, not a 1911. It doesn't need a "reliability" 'smithing. They run 100% out of the box.

It comes with night sights standard.

All CZ triggers get better around the 500 round mark.

What other custom work?

$750 is still high.

I really liked my CZSP01, but recently sold it (and picked up an Angus CZ75B instead) because It didn't fit my needs anymore.

They don't suck, are exceptional for comp work for all the reasons stated above.

And about that price..... Wayyyy to high. Mine was fully worked over by Matt Mink (including LPA sights), and had about 1500 rounds through it (guess), and I sold it for $625.

For that kind of money you could almost get the Angus Hobdell custom shop SP01, which would pretty much be everything you ever wanted, right outta the box.

One of these just sold here for $700, for conversation.

You pay some extra to have angus do your gun because he's angus. To be honest I think Matt Mink and Kory Charland do equally good work. Kory did my trigger on my CZ 75sa and it is pretty freaking awesome.

both would be good for IDPA and steel and USPSA.
have seen good shooters shoot both well..I could go with either..but I choose the CZ to shoot..
shot a SP01 for bit..but have switched back to the lighter 75SA converted to DA/SA for competition

Well, I bought the SP01 today from Angus at Ghost. He sold me the shadow which is has the trigger job, hammer, rear combat sight and fron optic sight as well as the silver trigger all done at the factory. I dried fired the stock one and then the shadow and the difference was huge. It also came with 3 mags. He claims he is the only one that sells the CZ75 SP01 Shadow. Its pretty freakin nice.

Can someone tell me the differance between the Shadow and the Custom shop SP01 that Angus works on? They booth sound like they have custom shop work done.

The Shadow is actually a production gun cataloged for CZ-UB..but not CZ-USA.

it has the better sights, ext mag release, no firing pin block.

the custom shop is a worked over SP01..comp hammer, sights, 85combat trigger, wood grips. FPB can be removed.

those are the main differences..the Shadow meets the requirements for IPSC production..where as the custom shop wouldn't..but in USPSA..all the refinements of the custom shop are legal..
