On the way to school one day someone tried to strong arm her and steal by force the wallet in her pocket.

Did she file a report? That is 2-10 years of imprisonment here, if this happened anywhere near CCTV the police would catch up with the perp sooner or later.

I used to scoff at the idea of shooting an airsoft gun because it seemed to be as useless as a BB gun (which is a gun/toy that I totally dispise.)
Then later on I heard that the world's champion pistol shot uses an airsoft gun to practice shooting because he lives in Japan.
Then when he goes to shooting contests (in other countries that allow real guns) he borrows a gun from someone to compete.
However, I still object to guns that are designed to shoot at other people with just for fun (like airsoft guns and paintball guns.)
I am thinking about getting an airsoft gun someday to use for target shooting in my backyard.

You should consider it. For awhile, I was carrying an airsoft gun in my yard and property to keep dogs away. I would rather not kill a dog if I don't have to. And airsoft pellets get them running from me.

I am glad the fellow is ok, it was not very bright to take a real loaded gun out into the field of play, should have been locked up in the vehicle.

I have a personal modification to Coopers Rule #1, and a couple corollaries I call Rule #1A, etc...

Rule #1: All guns are always loaded until proven otherwise.

Rule 1A: You cant prove a gun is unloaded if you are not well familiar with it's mechanism.

Rule 1B: Don't handle guns you're not well familiar with (unless under the supervision of someone who is).

Rule 1C: Don't assume anything about guns your not familiar with.

Leaving it in the car would be illegal.

Under Czech law a firearm must be at all times kept in a way that prevents theft or misuse. Cars are considered objects that are too easily broken into.

Would a lock box inside the car satisfy the legal requirements?

I carry everywhere I go but as others have said in this situation I'd get to the paintball park and lock my gun in my lock box in my car

I also wouldn't have an airsoft gun that looks anything like my carry gun

Rounds fall under same set of rules of storage as guns but those are not registered so leaving those in the car seems as a better option, even though it would technically be a misdemeanor.

You can’t justify doing something that wound up with getting you shot in the chest because there are laws that prevent you from leaving stuff in your car. Put the ammo in one pocket that the gun is not in. Use a holster that won’t allow you to loose control of your pistol. #2 would be my first choice.

Not under the current law but there is a new firearms act being drafted right now that should allow for that option if passed.
That would be good, I did not see that leaving it in the car wasn't an option, too bad. I guess he should have left it at home, or like was posted, definitely not have the ammo in the gun, even if it had to be in another pocket like jmorris suggested. As I posted earlier, it was dumb to bring a loaded gun into the playing field. I feel for both parties and hope a lesson has been learned and the punishment isn't too severe.

I carry "all the time" but when playing sport I leave it in the locker as it were. What an awful mistake- but better than my fear that the CCWer had himself gotten confused, which would be even more unacceptable.

Why was someone wearing a carry piece during a game of air soft?
Incredible stupidity.
If you can't leave it in the car, leave it at home.
Or, take the slide off, put it in your pocket, put the rest in the car. Without key components it's arguably no longer a firearm.
Best, just leave it at home.
