What he said. ^^^
I had AKs, I have a vz-58.

Back to the OP, sorry they won't let you have one there. Nornico actually makes some fine firearms, wouldn't feel bad with something with their name on it. Or you can come up to AZ, same type of climate, MUCH better laws.

Second only to my Saiga-12, my Vz-58 is the best modern firearm I've ever bought. My only complaint about it is that the stock's a little bit short for my comfort. It's far more accurate with good ammo than I can do reliable justice to, it's reliable to a fault, and it's well built.

To Vaarok

Yeah, the first thing I noticed with the CZ was the pistol grip is built for a midget Czech.... there are a lot of other grips available. I ordered a real one ...as well as the picatiny fore end. Much better. As for the stocks...lots of options there, too. Extendable, collapsible , folders, you name it. The 'stock' metal side-folder fits me pretty good. The VZ came with a REAL pistol grip and the gun is so short, there's no upper hand guard and the lower is only about 2 1/2 or 3" long. Perhaps someone can tell me where I could get one of those left side bolt handles that they have. I grew up shooting a FN-Fal...great ergonomics for a right-handed shooter. Your right hand never has to leave the grip and your left can change mags, pull the charging handle back and continue on to the selector lever very quick and efficiently. Never could understand that with most shooters being right-handed, more manufacturers never did this. I saw a picture of one but don't know where to get one but the bolt does have a mounting point on the left side...take a look.

Here's a pic I "borrowed" of a Czech Small Arms (CSA) 7.5" barreled Sporter. They are available here in Canada in 5.56 or 7.62x39 (and our 5 round mag laws suck even more now!)

...thanks Snow Dog...I'm still a computer '**** when it comes to uploading pics but that's my new toy. ( in 7.62 as it's cheap and plentiful and it fits the CZ, too) $930 of legal, albeit, restricted fun, fun, fun. Not too often we can say that we're getting a better deal than the good ol' USA, is it ? Nothing about ANY countries gun laws ever seem to make much sense. The gun is even shorter when you unscrew the brake. There's also no room to fit the Holo sight I have on the other one but I'm working on something...maybe a clamp over the rear sight, short rail and a shorter Holo... I think the States only allow a different single stack, 10 round mag, too. I'll take the 30...(cough cough ) pinned at 5. ( if you look at the 'dog's pic, the "pin " is on the mag, in front of the trigger guard....very complex and hard to get at. )

...Dang...if only it came in " baby-blue"...to match my eyeballs... Yeah...by the time you pimp it all up, you need two men and a boy to lift it....r-r-r. Seriously though, the main reason I got the VZ was it uses a high-velocity rifle shell in a compact, SMG type platform. I was originally looking for a 'wheel ' gun in 44 ( Ruger Redhawk / Blackhawk ) or a 50 S&W as an alternative to 'bear spray ' when I'm in the bush. If anyone thinks spraying a p.o'd Grizzly, coming at you at about Mach 5, will slow it down...well, good luck with that. The reason for the revolver is simple...no safety, no slide to screw with, no jams...and you might only have time to get off one...maybe two shots. Better have a lot of bang-for-the-buck. Since both models are more expensive than the VZ, i opted for it, instead. Having a 47 shot Glock can only take you so far....I still might look for a handgun, though. As they say, you can never have too much firepower. The VZ is short enough to carry in a drop-leg type holster with a shorty 5 round mag....and, like a handgun, leaves both your arms free instead of carrying a rifle / shotgun. Thanks for the link...AND the info about mag limits...God Bless America...(sniff)

To Sam Cade...

I was looking around for a left side bolt handle and went to one of the suppliers and they do have the B&T...for the princely sum of $2449.95. Wow, I think I'll pass on that but it did come with a really compact Aimpoint that has potential for the VZ. Geez... almost 3 VZ's for the price of that...

They are about $1200 here.

A Aimpoint Micro? Well worth the money.

Geez...double the price for the dealer to just ORDER it ?...and I have to get the End User Cert ? What a rip off. ( but God Bless America...Land of The Free...Home of Cheap and Plentiful Shootin' Irons ) Yeah, that's the Aimpoint and I have found a "rear-sight replacement mount " that has promise...might have to cut and blast to get a fit. I'd like to find a smaller equivalent to my Holo, though...Red / Green, 4 reticles, 7 step brightness control, models from about $100- $200.... VERY easy to pick up targets, both eyes are open and downrange, good in sunlight.. pretty much " point and shoot ", easiest sight I've ever used. .It's only about 3" long @ the base but that's too long for Shorty. ( Osprey Optics...from < seeatnight.com > in Vancouver Wash....good service, too. ) I'll find something. Thanks for the info....

Thank you for the link. This type would be great for the CZ with a full stock ( like the one pictured ) The type I have on now is mounted on the front rail that covers the gas cylinder...and with the type of scope I have ( google the < seeatnight.com > site and click on holographic sights. ) it works great. If you look at the Israeli Tavor...you'll see approximately what mine looks like. You'll also see that the VZ...like the one above here... has absolutely no room for that...it doesn't even have much of a cylinder cover.... but I'll figure something out. The rear sight replacement might be the ideal way as I won't be using it anyway. Again...Danke, mein Herr...guten tag....or nacht.

...I'm trying an upload....( woo-hoo, i got something here...) There you have it, sport's fans....as you can see, not much room on Shorty. The rear sight method would be the best but I don't want anything protruding over the ejection port, either. The center picture is a dumb, stupid, rookie mistake. When you have a rifle with an 18 1/2 " barrel and the ( included ) cleaning kit is for the standard 15 1/2 " barrel....DON'T assume that everything is OK, at least NOT with corrosive powder. It does make a difference as this one " failed to extract " and took some prying to get out...because of the buildup. Lesson learned...and it won't ever happen again. ( geez...and I'm supposed to be a "trained perfeshnal"....sad )

I've heard the vz's aren't accurate at all. Everywhere I've read a review the accuracy of the gun has been minute of man at 100 yards. I'm sorry but I like my gun to shoot as good as I do or better and that's not the case with this rifle, nor is it with a mosin but that's a cheap gun, VZ's aren't.

As far as 58's accuracy goes: Of course, it isn't a target rifle, but if shot at international pistol target by a decent shooter at 100 meters, every shots are in the 10 cm (4 inch) bulls eye. Good enough for me.

As I said minute of man. If said man is thin and standing sideways. There's nothing wrong with minute of man if shots are freehand at 100 yards or fighting for your life. Don't get me wrong I love the way a vz handles and looks, but I prefer a smaller margin for error.
