..My dad just scored a National Postal Meter M1 Carbine at an auction today
it is in excellant condition and came with like 5 mags, bayo, sling, and .30 carbine reloading dies
he paid 600 bones for it
the SN# corresponds with NPM's 4 million SN# range
can any M1 gurus confirm that this is a war year carbine and if it was a good deal? im thinking he did well....

I'm not guru. However, I know that you need to give more information.
Barrel maker and date, type of stock, bolt information, op rods, rear-sight. Does it have a bayonet lug/sleeve?

IMHO, $600 for an excellent M1 Carbine is a very good deal.

All USGI carbines were made during WW2. If it comes with a Bayo I guess you have a bayo lug on it. That is post WW2 and if it has an adjustable rear sight that is too. Most all of them have these features. Put on after ww2 or in Korea. Yes its a good deal if its in nice shape and he likes it.

I paid $595 recently for an import marked NPM that is very nice. Original barrel, and mostly postwar rebuild parts like the bayonet mount, rotating safety, etc. So that's in the ballpark.
