Dallas City Council to entertain gun buy back

Well, here we go. Dallas, one of Texas' bastions of liberalism is heading down the primrose path with some more stupid feel good BS.

Notice that this was reported from Houston. The only local news organization that I could find reporting it was WFAA TV.

DFW area folks, we need to voice our strongest opposition to this silliness!

please post the dates of when this will be going on so I can show up with a wad of cash

Who, what, when, where?

Who do you want them to complain to?

What specifically do you want members to complain about?

When is the event that they should complain about?

Why do you want them to care about this?

You don't have enough information for a plan and those things are needed so members can act in an effective manner.

Let me see here. HHUUMMMMM. If I break into 6 houses and steal all the guns in the 6 houses and sell them back, I shud have enuf cash to buy drugs for the next week.

Sounds like a plan to me.

Don't they realize that they're just fostering crime???

Here is a link to the email address of the entire Dallas City Council, including Mayor Tom Leppert.

I would think emails to these folks stating opposition to the idea would be effective.

What specifically do you want members to complain about?

This is just now being considered by the council, so it is not an event yet. My thinking is to voice opposition while it is in the consideration stage so it will not happen. As stated in my original post, wasting money, most especially in these economic conditions on a program that has proven over and over to be a failure in other cities is unconscionable. This is a knee jerk reaction to the tragic death of a highly respected Dallas Police Officer. I have to think that this Officer would much rather see resources applied to anti crime measures that are effective.

When is the event that they should complain about?

Again it is, at this stage a proposal. Now is the time to voice opposition, not after the council has approved it.

Why do you want them to care about this?

Aside from the reasons already stated, it is an oblique incremental attack on gun owners rights. The message is "Well we have tried to buy them back, and that doesn't work, so we just need to make them illegal."

You don't have enough information for a plan and those things are needed so members can act in an effective manner.

My email to Mayor Leppert follows:

Mayor Leppert,
It is with dismay that I read a news story reporting that the City of Dallas is considering a gun buyback. These efforts have historically been totally ineffective, and in these economic times can the City of Dallas afford this kind of expenditure on a program that we already know will fail?
I have to think that Officer Norm Smith would rather see money spent on an effort that will have a true effect on crime.

Commercial transfer of a firearm without a background check for its being stolen is a violation of BATF policy.

Gun buy backs are creating a anonymous cash resource for stolen guns and felons with unlawful firearms.

"No Questions Asked" -- the whole RATIONALE behind "checks" is to prevent criminal traffic in firearms.

These govt. agencies can't have it both ways. The way you STOP traffic in stolen and unlawfully possessed firearms is through stringent background search for the gun and for the transferee.

"No govt. agency is above the law."
