Will it damage a Kel-Tec P-11 if fired with NO magazine installed?
I was shooting with a friend at the range.
He asked, "Will this fire if it doesn't have the magazine in it?"

I said, "I didn't know."
So he pulled the trigger and found out.

IT DID FIRE.

Not sure if this was a good idea.
But I guess he knows, that if for some WEIRD reason
he needs to fire it again with no mag.
It will fire.......

Anyone know if this could cause any damage?

The only thing I could think it would hurt is the slide slamming home without a round to help slow it down.
The spring pressure is figured so that it has the force to strip a new round and feed it. Without that round there all that force has to go somewhere and its straight into the lugs, barrel and slide.
One time I don't think would really hurt anything but I would not do it all the time.

No, it won't hurt a semi-auto pistol to fire it without the mag.

You could damage the extractor by dropping the slide on a round already in the chamber.

The Kel-Tec, and any other Browning derived gun, is designed for the round coming out of the mag to slide up under the extractor hook as it comes out of the mag and goes into the chamber.

Other guns, like the Makarov & Luger, and some other newer designs are designed for the extractor to snap over the chambered round.

Still, it is risky business to load single rounds and drop the slide on them.

Open slide ND's have happened when the round was not fully in the chamber and the primer got hit with the projecting extractor hook, or other part of the slide.

It was the last round from the magazine.
All he did was take the magazine out.

Thanks for the help.

there are pistols that don't stay open after the last round is fired,so the slide slamming closed without a bullet shouldn't be a problem. jwr
