Once again, I am planning to add another handgun to the collection. I have narrowed it down to a Dan Wesson 1911 from CDNN or a Glock 19 or 23 purchased locally.
I have long wanted a 1911 and have had two, neither of which worked right. I have a friend who worked for Wilson Combat so if I buy a 1911 we are going to go to work with a Brownells catalog and our imaginations and make it into exactly what I want. How would the Dan Wesson be for a starting point?
Next is the Glock 19. I already have two 9mm's and reloading dies and components for it. Although I have only fired two Glocks in my life I have found that they fit my hand quite well. They have a great reputation for reliability and the same friend who would help me with the 1911 has worked in a gun store for about three years. He has never had to send a Glock back for repairs.
The G23 would fill the same role as the 19 but it has just a little more thump. I spend some time in the woods and a little more power is comforting. I know, a .357, .41 mag, or .44 mag would be better. I know. Still, I have been trying to simplify things and I have always been a better marksman with an automatic. They just work better for me. For the use I need it for, meaning "just in case" and definitely NOT hunting, I think the .40 with the right ammo would do OK.
Any help that anyone can give me with this decision would be appreciated. Thanks.
