Had a G19 G3, gave it to a friend, have a G23 G3 that I carry a lot. Either is fine no matter what Gen.

I agree with post 2 and 3 and stopped reading.

I'm very experienced with pistols and carry the G23. I own several Glocks in all calibers.

I'll add this:
If you're a new handgun shooter: Get the 9mm. Practice Practice Practice. Don't even consider upgrading to the .40 until you are extremely proficient with the 9mm.

Well I suppose that is part of the question: is .40 still considered an "upgrade" from 9mm? If you are talking strictly energy/power, I suppose so, but if you are talking about SD/duty/combat effectiveness, the picture is much murkier.

I agree, and almost consider the .40 a downgrade at this point, for me anyway, and I consider myself fairly experienced.

In reality, either one will do the job. You really cannot go wrong with either a 19 or a 23. It simply comes down to a a combination of your age and which caliber you prefer.

I just shot my brand new Gen3 Glock 19 for the first time today. No question about it - that is the one to buy for these 62 year old hands. I promptly sold my Gen3 Glock 23 to my 30 year old nephew - I liked it, but he loves it. When I want to shoot .40 S&W I will fire it out of a full size Glock 22.
