I ended up trading for one of these this weekend. I have the reloading dies for them. Just wanted to see if anyone knew more about the round.

Be in awe

At one time PMC made brass for this cartridge. I have some of it and it sticks in the chamber badly (as in dowel and mallet to extract it) no matter how light the load. Since then I have been using Starline brass and it does what it is supposed to.

Use medium to heavy for caliber bullets for heavy loads. Use light bullets (less than 240 grains) for lite loads only. Don't go for hyper velocities. With any given bullet weight it will easily outrun a 44 Magnum.

You have the silhouette barrel shroud. The cutout slots are to get the weight down to the legal limit for competition. The silhouette shooters liked heavy bullets to knock over the steel ram at 200 meters.

Expect accuracy. A really serious silhouette shooter would be able to hit a half life sized steel prairie chicken at 200 meters about 50% of the time with the right load. That's what they do for a tie breaker.

Big question. Anyone know what these are worth. I know I got a good deal on it. Just curious how good

You can use .44 Russian, .44 Spl., .44 Mag. and .445 Supermag. Also see something called the .44 Rhino for reference. It's a bit too long for the Supermag as I recall. I think I gave around $400 for mine. I had the sticky brass problem with the early IHMSA brass and solved it by making cases from .303 British. H110/W296/Lil Gun and slower powders. AA1680/W680 proved best for me. No plated bullets. Jacketed OK.

$1600-NOT! I'd be surprised to see that sell, maybe not even get a bid starting at $1300, even with a nice scope and Burris base.

.445 SM is a very capable handgun round, you can reload it with .44 Mag dies, and the DW Supermag frame will stand up to very aggressive reloads.

This one

is my son's carry gun when he camps in the Everglades. I don't like shooting it much, anything over 20 rounds with his reloads gets a little painful.
