just got back from my dealer and am interested in one of his revolvers. Its a Dan Wesson .357 blued revolver, comes with 2 barrels, 4 inch and 8 inch, aluminum carry case, original styrofoam case, 2 speed loaders with carry case, all tools needed for barrel change, Nc Star handgun scope mounted to the 8 inch barrel, original plus pachmeyer grips, and an aimpoint weaver mount. Weapon fully appears to be in excellant condition. Asking price is $549.00 but he said right off that he was willing to negotiate down. This would be my first revolver seeing that I'm normally a 1911 guy. I really plan on using it as a range gun but i love the concept of being able to switch barrel lengths for CCL. So I'm looking for some advice and opinions on this weapon, set-up, and price. Trigger is not bad at all and I'm really interested to know what types of groups I can get off a bench with some good reloads. Thanks ahead of time.

I have a DW pointman and it's my favorite gun. My brother has the revolver with interchangable barrels and says it's his favorite and he has a safe full of pistols. DW makes a fine pistol whether auto loader or revolver.
Just my $.02.

I think that might be a touch high priced but if the condition is really good then I would certainly consider it. I like the Dan Wesson a lot too. I have 6 of them at present and am always on the lookout for more. I have an early pistol pak with a 2", 4", and 6" 357 Magnum, a 10" 44 magnum blue, a 4" 44magnum stainless, a 22 with 6" blue, a 22 stainless 6" and last a 375 Supermag with 8" barrel. I think they are really nice guns and for a long time have been under estimated being in the shadow of Smith & Wesson and Colt revolvers. I also like the Dan Wessons autos and I have three pointmans; A PM7 in 38 super, a PMA in 10mm and a PM3 in 45. :)

you can get excellent accuracy out of the DW revolvers. Some will argue that they are more accurate than the Smith and Wessons, but I won't start a flame war :) I own 2 and think they are great guns. Look on Gunbroker or Auction Arms to get the going price. A complete pistol pack with 4 barrels, case and either a belt buckle or patch can be had for around $600.

Talk him down to something under $500 and you'll be in the fair market range.

All of my Dan's have been accurate and reliable. Once you get over the stigma of it not being a ruger/colt/smith then life is good and you have a great gun to shoot. I find that once I set a Dan up for a particular barrel I rarely change it but it sure makes it easier to clean!.

Excellent accuracy, reliability and great single action trigger pull.

I have a DW .357 with 8" and 4" barrels. Accuracy is very good especially with the 8" barrel. SA trigger is also very good but I found it inconvenient to frequently switch barrels and the DA trigger is not as good in my opinion. So I have the DW setup with the 8" for longer range shooting and I have a 4" S&W 686 for carry and plinking. - Phil

Thanks for the responces, but what is a "palmer gun"? So is the general consensus that if i can negotiate down under $500.00 the whole package would be a good deal? Thanks again.

$500 is about right. These guns can be very accurate, and used to be very popular for metal silhouette. I'm not sure why the Pistol Packs aren't demanding more of a price.

I recenltly sold a 22 pistol pack with 2, 4, 6 and 8 inch barrels for $500, about what I paid for it. The gun was in excellent condition.

Dan Wessons were made in 3 different areas. First they were made in Monson, then moved to Palmer, and finally in Norwich. The company went thru periods where finances dropped and the quality wasn't the best. A lot of this time period occured when the plant was in Palmer. You can look on the frame and it's stamped which plant the gun came from.

I cant my pictures to work. But I have 3 Dan Wesson revolvers. The Alaskan Guide 445sm,A 44mag and a 460 Rowland in SS.All of them are accurate fun to shoot and the best thing is you can swap out barrels in a snap.
