Got this one coming and I'm super excited. I struggled over a 715 and a S&W 686+ for a while, and eventually went with the S&W. My initial response to the S&W was lukewarm at best as I wasn't impressed with the finishing. However two trips out shooting it put that nonsense out of my mind as the gun is an absolute hand rifle. I can't miss with it and it's a joy to shoot.

Still had an itch for a Dan Wesson though, as I own two of the newer 1911s and love them to death. Saw no point in buying one of the new DWs since I already had a perfectly serviceable 357. Thought it over a while and decided that if I could be patient and wait, I would keep both eyes open for a clean Monson produced 741VH that I could get for a price I could live with.

Well while waiting I found this .44 and it was everything I wanted except the caliber, and the price was certainly what I was looking for. Didn't think on it long, and it will be coming my way this week. I love the idea of the 8" full underlug barrel on the .44 and I hope this DW shoots as well as my S&W.

This is an IHMSA gun so the serial number will be the original purchaser's IHMSA member number, so I can't date it. Found a full spring kit for it, which seemed like maybe a good thing to snag so I could give it an overhaul someday. Even found a replacement NOS barrel, so depending on the condition of the barrel in this gun I do have an option to put a new one in it that will last me the rest of my days. Lastly the large S&W pistol case is available and cheap so I can shelve the DW styrofoam for posterity.

Now I just need them to give us another economic stimulus so I can buy a progressive reloader and load my own magnum rounds. I'm saving all my brass :)

Boy howdy! That's a catch for sure! It looks to be quite a revolver...

I lucked into a 741V a friend of mine had, it's an excellent shooter, but I wish I had a 4" VH barrel set, to go with the 6". He felt pity on me, so I got it at a fair price... not so much like GB and other places. :(

I really kick myself in the... well... the rear area... for not getting at least a 41DW when they were being produced... if not a Pistol Pac. Back then I was buying guns like they were going out of style... but for some reason I never picked up a DW.

The IHMSA guns were a really cool idea, having your own serial # is a sweet touch for a buyer to add to their gun.

DW’s were the darlings of the production revolver class on silhouette firing lines for a long time. During my impressionable high school years I wanted a .414 Super Mag when they came out... all the BOOM of the .414 Super Mag with the option of shooting .41 Mag and now .41 Special cartridges. Now they’re scarcer than hen’s dentures and five times more expensive.

Your 8” VH 744 is a beauty, let us know how it shoots for you when you get a chance. :)

Stay safe.

Usually the DW IHMSA member# guns were produced in the first year of production of that model. However when Seth Wesson was the President of DW he might run specials on certain guns or make specific guns for auction as fund raisers. As that is a MA gun based on the papers, it was probably returned at least once or twice for a tune up, as was the practice of steel shooters of the day and may basically be a hand built Dan.
The reputation of the Dan was built on 200 meter steel shooting. Good find.

ok let this be a lesson for everyone. Don't buy anything on armslist unless you are doing business face to face. I am internet savvy and generally would consider myself too smart to fall for anything that would part me from what's mine, but after 25 years of buying stuff on the internet, I finally got scammed. I ignored the warning signs because I wanted the gun so bad. I could just puke. It's a hard and expensive lesson for me and I was too sick about it the last couple days to say anything.

What happened, no gun after payment or not the gun they showed in the ad?

Stay safe.

no gun after payment and the Zelle account used to receive my funds has been unregistered. Totally got got and no recourse. Hard lesson.

It's not going to be any consolation but for me, any full lug Dan Wesson .44 over 6" is just too much meat. The 10" is a real boat anchor at 72oz. The 8" light barrels are a sweet spot.

Man that stinks!
Zelle has no info to provide on the account used by the suspects? :cuss:

I’ve been lucky on GB I guess. I’ve received a couple of guns that had a couple more nooks and crannies than the photos showed, but the sellers are usually pretty up front with the blems on the guns and all have come through with the sale.

I seriously hope you can dispute something and get al least some money back.

Stay safe..

the use of Zelle or Venmo instead of a method that gave me some protection
also while thinking I was scammed but not sure yet I found the same pics on a gunbroker auction from a couple months back, that's when I knew I'd been hit

I'm sorry it happened to you. Hopefully the scammer gets some sort of justice eventually. I've never been ripped off on any auction site sale, going back to 2006 and many many guns.
