"Dangerous Dog" registration (illinois)

This has already happened, de facto

With alot of insurance companies...They won't insure or charge extra if you own certain breeds of dogs...Which is why all of my dogs are "mixed breeds" even though they bear a striking resemblance to "German Shepherds". My next dog will be (although I'll always have some of the aforementioned "mixed breeds") a Fila Brasileiro....Let them figure THAT one out.

P.S. I've trained dogs for Schutzhund Sport for a few years now, worked with trainers from all over the world...and that list is seriously flawed....There are several less common breeds, that I would consider belonging on that list, far more than some that are there....And as far as Cocker Spaniels being biters, they are, mostly because I've seen figures that as many as 25% are prone to "canine rage syndrome"...Kinda like an epileptic seizure where they go nuts (Briefly) and bite everything in sight. Found in other breeds and mixes, but not nearly as prevalent. I actually watched a cocker mix go off once...Hadda be PTS.

And one more comment, of all the dog-bite cases I've been involved with/know about, they were ALL provoked by the person that got bit(although I'm sure that occasionally this is not the case)...Not intentionally mind you, but usually because they didn't know how to behave around dogs. Its kinda like the "4 rules"...Follow the rules of proper behavior around dogs, and you won't get bit.

Good idea, though I don't own a dog that makes the usual lists of "aggressive & dangerous" dogs.

Heck, my mixed breed dogs (that happen to resemble German Shorthaired Pointers) didn't even have a classification until the late 19th Century.

I do worry about the GSPs getting overbred and stoopid after the GSP won Westminster.

The whole idea of breed specific legislation is asinine.

That is one reason I use State Farm for my home insurance. They don't have a dangerous dog list. They will ask you if you own a dog and want to know if it has ever bit anyone and only if it has, depending on the circumstances surrounding the bite, then they'll either decide to charge more or refuse to insure you. That makes sense and is fair enough for me.

On the other hand, they only cover up to $2,500 worth of firearms. :(

well

I just got some feedback from one of my "dog friends" in Illinois....And the bill has been killed...Guess they got ALOT of phone calls, once this publically made the rounds on the internet (I sent it to several hundred myself, although that was probabaly after it had already been killed)

P.S. Anyone that owns dogs, and think this kinda stuff is BS, should joins the American Dog Owners Association (www.adoa.org)....What the NRA is to gun rights, these people are to dog owners rights.
