Danish Issue Garand Question

Swampy,

Thanks for all the great info. My Danish M1 has "PB" stamped on the side of the stock, near the butt. The previous poster said it means Beretta. So, that would jive with your mention of Italian walnut. You mentioned that is more rare?

Thanks again for all the info.

Steve

priv8ter,

If you're going to change out stocks, spend a few extra bucks and get a Wenig from Dean's Gun Restorations. Much better than Boyd's. I just got a fitted/unfinished stock from Dean. A light sanding with 180 and 220, then some oil. It didn't even need any stain but I added a tiny amount of Chestnut Ridge just for a little red. The rifle fit perfectly in the stock right out of the box. Wenig stocks closely match USGI countours, while Boyd's are known to be fat.

Wood is the easy part. Shoot for good metal.

Here is a 'better?' look of the "NAB" or "HAB" cartouche on the side of the stock. I took this picture after I had cleaned the stock but before applying Minwax Tung Oil. I don't think that the "A" could be a "P" as for "PB" (Pietro Beretta) - what do you think?

Thanks!

Nando,

It doesn't look like the "PB" that is stamped on my stock. I'll try to take a picture and post it.

It looks like an "A" to me.
