Can a CZ 75 B be carried in a de-cock type fashion safely? I've never messed with one before, so I'm asking. It's obvious for C&L... It doesn't de-cock on its own... I know I can carefully drop the hammer to a half notch area that's away from the firing pin... but is it a safe carry that way? Does it effectively make it a DA first shot?

You can carry it at half cock.

yep sure can. Pretty much is a DA first shot that way.

For what it's worth. If you had a Decocker model (BD), it is carried at halfcock (this is the position the decocker leaves the hammer in). A BD has no additional safety features other than the decocker. At halfcock, the BD and B are no different. They both have the same firing pin safety.

it might best be described differenly

At Hammer down, you have the firing pin safety. And it is safe to carry!

At half cock you have the have the firing pin safety and the half cock safety. And it is safe to carry!

At cocked and locked, you have the firing pin safety, the half cock safety and the active frame safety. And it is safe to carry!

You could ask for a gun with more safe carry options but why would you.

Some threads being crossed here. Or twisted.

The point being made was that the firing pin block is a profound safety -- the gun can't fire unless the trigger is pulled fully to the rear.

The decocker CZ models all decock to the half-cock notch, which is the starting position.

A standard CZ can be carried hammer down, on half-cock, or cocked and locked, and the firing pin block is working in all three positions.

I know we're talking about new CZ's, but just to be safe...

Be wary of decocking a CZ52. Some of them will fire when decocked.

Assuming we're talking about a regular 75B (no decocker), the best practice is to put your index finger between the hammer and the slide, pull the trigger until the hammer releases, RELEASE THE TRIGGER, then let your finger "roll" out from under the hammer. It will safely fall to half-cock, and can be carried this way.

Personally, I carry mine C&L, but this is just as safe.

From the CZ manual -

Load the pistol. Grasp the grip. POINT IN A SAFE DIRECTION. With thumb and index finger of the other hand hold the hammer firmly. Pull the trigger and release the hammer slowly and gradually until it rests on the firing pin stop. Release the trigger. Apply extreme caution when lowering the hammer to avoid a accidental discharge! We strongly recommend to practice this operation beforehand with the pistol unloaded.

In this state the pistol is safe for all normal handling and at the same time ready for immediate use.

So -- Has anyone ever had an accidental discharge when doing this?

I always think CZ should delete the half cock notch on their B models. It's already got the firing pin block. Without the half cock position, you can release the trigger as soon as the hammer starts to move, rather than half way pass the whole travel, with the first half being most likely to cause an ND if finger slipped. Also the on the D models, without the half cock they can decock all the way to the frame, safer IMO (if half cock is safer than fully cocked, and fully cocked while locked is safer than cocked and unlocked)...

double

the advantage of half cok is two fold. one is the fact that it is a safety. the other is that it changes the trigger position and pull. for a first shot.

Half cock means you don't have that 50yard DA pull that ca is famous for. I vote that they do not get rid of half cock because that attitude is half cocked.
