Back in 2006, THR poster Nightcrawler started a little online fiction story here called Welcome Back, Mr. Nightcrawler. I jumped in with him, and even though we made it up on the fly, it turned out pretty darn good. Most of you guys really liked it.

The mega-online fiction thread http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=207390&highlight=correia

Fast forward a few years, my writing career was doing pretty good, so I talked Mike into fixing up Mr. Nightcrawler. So now a THR thread has been sold as a novel to a major publishing house. Dead Six is what Mr. Nightcrawler turned in to, only it is twice as big (and actually edited!) It is finally coming out at the end of September. A book written by THR members for THR members has hit the big time.

(and if I could get ever single registered member here to buy it opening week, we'd be #1 on the NYT, and the literati-elite's heads would EXPLODE! The fact my Monster Hunter novels stared on a gun forum drive them up the wall. Having a book actually written on a gun forum will give them fits.) :D

If you would like an autographed copy, you can get it here:

http://www.unclehugo.com/prod/ah-correia-larry.php There are only a limited number of these. Mike is still going to be in Afghanistan when the book comes out, so we signed a bunch of bookplates together first that are getting stuck into the front of the books from Uncle Hugos.

If you don't care about autographs, it is available from Amazon http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/14...&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=470938631&pf_rd_i=507846

or B&N http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/dea...28?ean=9781451637588&itm=5&usri=larry+correia or it will be in most bookstores.

eBooks for your Nook or Kindle will be available here (with free sample chapters!) http://www.webscription.net/p-1472-dead-six.aspx

Nightcrawler is Mike Kupari. He is an Air Force EOD tech, currently attached to an Army unit and stationed in southern Afghanistan. This is his first published novel. Instead of doing book signings, he will be lumbering along in a bomb suit defusing IEDs on release day. Because he is that awesome.

I'm a former THR mod and plank owner. After Mr. Nightcrawler, I went on to write a whole bunch of books and I'm doing okay. :)

The syonopsis:
Michael Valentine, veteran and former member of an elite private military company, has been recruited by the government to conduct a secret counter-terror operation in the Persian Gulf nation of Zubara. The unit is called Dead Six. Their mission is to take the fight to the enemy and not get caught.

Lorenzo, assassin and thief extraordinaire, is being blackmailed by the world's most vicious crime lord. His team has to infiltrate the Zubaran terrorist network and pull off an impossible heist or his family will die. When Dead Six compromises his objective, Lorenzo has a new job: Find and kill Valentine.

As allegiances are betrayed and the nation descends into a bloody civil war, Lorenzo and Valentine must face off. Two men. Two missions. Only one will win.

I hope you guys like it. We plugged THR in the acknowledgments.

I have read Dead Six and it is outstanding, 5 stars! I hope it is made into a movie, as the action is relentless and the characters are great. The best book I've read in a while, and I read a lot of books.

On my list of things to read... and ordered now, too.

And again, congratulations to you both!

my writing career was doing pretty good

I shouldn't...but I can't help it...especially given the context...you meant to write: "my writing career was doing pretty well"

Superman does good, your career is doing well. (Unless of course your career is saving kittens from tall trees, funding orphanages, etc.)

I like to emphasize the difference between doing good and doing well with this explanation:

Many congressmen go to Washington to do good, and they stay to do well.
:)

Get it, it is meant to be a joke? Anyway, best of luck, I hope it continues to do well for you.

Naw, I'm rescuing kittens and stuff.

I is a professional writing type person so I dont use grammer and words wrong no more.

I don't even know what the book is about....but want to support an author/member here! I just placed my order (and asked for the signed bookplate). I've been kinda' working on a book of my own....if I ever have time (and dedication) to finish it!

Good luck,

Warner

Some people get paid for writing well.

Others get paid for writing good.

Most people don't get paid for writing at all.

:D

Larry I have always read historical type novels and to be honest I thought your first book would not hold my interest; Wrong!! Read the entire M.H. series (2 books) on some long overseas flights. Thank you for keeping my mind off of stupid coach seating!! Just ordered Deep Six.

Hey, Brian, would you pass the word to the other guys behind the mod curtain that we could use reviews? :)

when is part deux coming?
Not for a while yet. We've got a contract offer for 2 more, but Mike wanted to wait until he was back from Afghanistan before he signs them. (worried about traumatic brain injuries and that sort of thing).

#2 is called Swords of Exodus
#3 is called Project Blue

And yes, sm, totally shameless self promotion. :D If I could get every single member of THR to buy this book release week it would be the #1 book in the country. I'm all in favor of that!

In fact, go tell your friends to buy it too! Please. :p

We are now about a week out. :)

From the acknowledgements page: The story that would become DEAD SIX began as an online serial at www.thehighroad.org titled Welcome Back, Mr. Nightcrawler. Thank you to the good folks of THR for letting us play in their yard.

Just ordered two copies... all I can afford right now.

Heads up on "used copies"; Buying used will NOT add to the NYT Best Seller quantity so select only NEW copies.

Ehh... Superman does good AND well. In fact, he does very well at doing good. A person's career might very well be doing good (LEO, fireman, minister, etc.). I hope I did well and provided good clarification. Either way, it's all well and good.:D:neener:

I'm going to need a bigger dorm because THR has so many published authors
get yourself an e-reader. In my opinion it pays in the long term - saves plenty of shelf-space, and you can have all your library with you on any trip.

You can get the Kindle book at www.baen.com, but not directly on the Kindle store. My publisher is having a fight with Amazon. We've been doing cheap eBooks for ten years, and Amazon likes to have a stranglehold. So we're working on it.
