After an hour and some change into the reporting period of the Iowa caucuses,
Howard Dean is running a distant third behind John Kerry and John Edwards.
I hate to say "I told you so...." (or maybe I don't), but so much for good Doctor and his internet blitz. Do you suppose it's his obnoxious, belligerent,
arrogant attitude or the fact that voters percieve that a bowl of jello has a stronger grasp on national issues than this guy?

He may not be quite done yet, but I'd be gettin' the fork ready!:neener:

IIRC, Clinton chose to skip the Iowa Circus and concentrate his efforts in New Hampshire. Ultimately, Clinton prevailed on the strength of his campaign's organizing skills. Dean seemed to be of the opinion that because he had the money he was gonna win.

We may indeed take it in the fanny come ten months from now, but that is a given with any election. I'll savor this while working to elect someone who won't take my rights for granted. I don't know who that is but it sure as h&ll ain't one of the Democrats.

Dangit. Kerry is a worst-case scenario. Well...no, that's not fair, Kucinich is just as screwy and Clark is possibly worse.

Gephard :barf: is enough of a political animal that he might not want to screw around with guns. Ditto Lieberman. They're horrible, yes, but...

SIGH.

God, this is gonna be a bad one. I would *really* like an alternative to Dubya and John "hey, let's let's cut crime by busting CHONG" Ashcroft.

:cuss: :cuss: :cuss: :cuss:

Thought I'd post Kerry's official stance on the 2nd Amendment of the Constitution of the United States of America from his official website, in case anyone has any illusions about this individual and the danger he represents to this nation:

Democratic candidate for President John Kerry wrote a letter to the hundreds of individuals, celebrities, authors, religious organizations, and businesses blacklisted by the NRA, to join him in standing up to the divisive agenda of the gun lobby and standing up for gun safety.

In a letter to the many prominent Americans put on the NRA’s publicly advertised “anti-gun†list, Kerry said, “The NRA’s blacklist is the modern day equivalent of Richard Nixon’s enemies list. This blacklist is precisely the politics of division and distortion that have turned too many people away from participating in the process. We can’t let the NRA scare people into silence. I know what it’s like to be targeted by the NRA, and I refuse to sit idly by during my campaign for the presidency while they push their divisive agenda on America and slander those who stand up for gun safety.â€
Kerry also promised to continue his fight for gun safety during his campaign for the presidency: “Why should those on the NRA blacklist courageously risk their livelihoods when Democratic candidates for President aren’t willing to stand up against powerful interests and risk their political capital? I believe that standing up for gun safety is important, and I refuse to be a candidate who retreats from the issue out of political fear or one who tries to have it both ways. I’m a hunter and a gun owner, but I’ve never gone hunting with an AK-47. I’ll stand up to the NRA when they call law enforcement officers ‘jackbooted thugs’ or stand in the way of common sense efforts to keep the most dangerous weapons out of the hands of felons and children. The Democratic Party will never be the choice of the NRA—and I’ not looking to be the candidate of the NRA.â€

Did anyone else see Deaniac absolutely LOSE IT on CNN earlier? It was honestly scary.

I was rooting for this idiot so Bush could use him for a doormat in November. I'm upset that he lost Iowa and now I'm afraid he's blown it. He looked exactly like a raving drunk.

There's a very long list of "front runners" who ended up getting spanked in their first primary or caucus and then came back to kick serious booty and win the Presidency.

George Bush the first was one of them. He, too, finished a distant third in Iowa in 1988, and if I'm not mistaken Bob Dole also pummeled him pretty badly in New Hampshire, too.

Bush, Reagan's VP for two terms, was elected President in 1988. Dole didn't even make the ticket.

It works the other way around, too. John McCain, the early favorite in 2000, laid a hurting on Bush II in New Hampshire. According to the results that I just pulled up, McCain polled 115,000+ votes in New Hampshire to Bush's 71,000. Look where we are now.

Don't write off a candidate based on the results of a single caucus or primary.

Yeah, but he's gonna win MASSACHUSETTES, AND ARIZONA, AND NEW MEXICO AND TEXAS AND CONNECTICUT AND SOUTH DAKOTA ............. He's lost his friggin mind. Funny stuff.

why are caucuses supposed to be so important anyway? I mean Iowa is hardly representative of the rest of the country, and, from the numbers fox reported with 98% of precincts reporting, it looks like less than 3000 people actually voted tonight.

Say, what?

Kerry confuses me: he is a "...hunter and gun owner..." as well as a Viet Nam Vet, yet he asserts that the NRA considers Police to be "jackbooted thugs" and that the NRA wants to put "dangerous weapons in the hands of felons and children"?

I guess I didn't get the memo:banghead:

Caucuses are a little screwy, IMO, since they don't really open themselves up to a wide section of the electorate, like primaries do, but rather the hard-core of the respective parties.

Ug.. This is like laughing because Saddam didn't win, and watching them vote for Bin Laden :cuss:

Gun Grabber Kerry.. That's what we need..

Anybody going there wearing a "NRA4LIFE" t-shirt? :D

Meh, i'm going to be happy to see Dean do well in the real primaries.

I'll also be quite happy if he gets the Dem nomination and kicks Dubya out of office.

Socially and fiscally he's way better than Bush, and arguably has nearly identical gun control policies as Bush (IE favoring the AWB but not much other gun control stuff).

Quite frankly, on some issues, Dean has shown about as much support for guns as George W. They both "kind of" support the AWB, which is unacceptable. But let's not forget George Sr. was a big supporter of gun control, and that Vermont is STILL the only state in the nation to not require a concealed carry permit.

Ah, hell. Anything but Sharpton :).

If Dean doesn't win the Dem nomination,I wouldn't be at all surprised to see the Green party offer him theirs. THAT would cause some serious consternation in the Democrat party.
