Deer hunting caliber for shoulder injury

Back in 2015, I had abdominal surgery and the doc told me that I wasn't to shoot my .308 for 3 weeks...too much recoil. He said I needed to pick a smaller caliber with less recoil. I ended up with a 20" HBAR 6.5 Grendel. Nobody likes a heavy gun, but the extra weight helps to dampen the recoil. I was so happy with the Grendel, I have been hunting with them (I own several, now) ever since.
